Well those of you who have been here for a while know that I love baseball but my second favorite sport is hockey. I know, I know, not your normal southern sport. But there is just something about it that I love.
Anyway,
Last night in Dallas, Texas were the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductions.
One of my favorite recently retired players from the Dallas Stars was inducted.
CONGRATULATIONS MIKE MODANO!

Dear Cold
Well it's Sunday night and we are all still hacking and coughing. My ears are now stopped up too. My kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy with all the prescriptions. To be honest, I'm so sick of coughing and the rounds of medicine.
Dear Cold,
I HAVE THINGS TO DO!
Sincerely,
RRMAMA

Yeah We Are Still Down For The Count
So R2 is still sick. It's been a long sickness for him. He has missed school for five days and even though we have his work, I'm worried about what he has been missing in the classroom. I don't want him to get behind.
His fever has finally gone down and his throat is no longer sore, his cough is still horrible. Also we are still on 4 different meds and breathing treatments too. I'm hoping we whip this thing by the weekend.
And to top it off, Hubs is down to. He's been complaining of sinus issues for the past few days. And yesterday he got home from work and went straight to bed, at 4pm.
So dear school, while I like you and love the teachers, please keep your germs to your self! We are dropping like flies in this house.

The Art Of Straw Flatulence
Um yeah, you read that title right.
The other day R1 decides he wanted to show Hubs and I something. So he took a regular drinking straw and stuck one end under his arm. Then he took the other and stuck it in his mouth. I immediately started thinking this isn't gonna be good.
R1 one then proceeds to make for lack of a better term, farting sounds by blowing into the straw. Oh and then of course R2 and Hubs had to join in the action.
Why I immediately thought this hilarious I will never know. I guess that's what happens when you live in a house full of boys.
When I asked R1 where he learned this he name one of his friends who is one of five boys in his household including his dad. And that didn't surprise me either. That family is great but they sure can come up with some funny stuff.
And just in case you want to see or need a tutorial for the Art of Straw Flatulence here you go...

It Was A Banner Weekend
Well out weekend started out with one of us down for the count.
R2 stayed home from school on Friday. He was complaining his stomach hurt and he had that glassy eyed look as well. By that afternoon he was running a low temp. And of course there is always some kind of virus going around at school so I figured it was just a 24 hour thing.
WRONG! And this is where I will have to give back my mother of the year trophy.
R2 then started coughing. The deep wet hacking kind of cough. And his fever never went a way. I should have taken him to urgent care on Saturday. But I didn't. Saturday morning we had a children's event planned at church and since I am the children's director I needed to be there. And to make it worse Hubs was in charge of games. We ended up tagging teaming so we each could spend some time at the event.
It all went down hill Saturday night. R2 coughed and snorted all night long. And to make it worse every time he coughed he woke him self up. Saying it hurt and he couldn't go back to sleep. By the time Sunday morning came around I knew I was heading to Urgent Care as they opened at 8AM.
R2 and showed up at Urgent Care at 8:07AM. Diagnosis...Strep and a sinus infection. One prescription for Amoxicillin and 55 minutes later we were headed home. And as of Sunday night he is still down for the count. To top it off, he was in the bathroom taking a bath and the next thing I know he is screaming he needs me. I go check on him and he is puking. But the best was he was in the bathroom but had manage to miss the toilet. G-R-O-S-S! But I cleaned him and the bathroom up and moved on.
Also some where in there when he was feeling better R2 and his brother, R1 and their dad, Hubs, decided to do a little show of what they learned this week at school. The art of straw flatulence. The art of straw flatulence is where you take a normal drinking straw and put it under your arm, right in the pit, and begin to blow until it makes a sound like someone with a very severe case of flatulence. I can only assume it's because I like in a house full of boys that I did not find this gross but rather hilarious. I asked my boys where they learned this and R1 replied oh from Landon M. Oh that explained it all. He is one of four boys in his house. Along with a crazy dad who puts stuff on Facebook everyday that makes me laugh out loud. So it was no surprise when Landon's name was said.
The other thing that happened over the weekend was Hubs made the most amazing gumbo! I mean it was his best yet. If you haven't ever had gumbo...1.) you are missing out. And 2.) If you've never had Hubs' gumbo then you are REALLY missing out.
So as you can see it was a banner weekend in our house. The boys learned the art of straw flatulence, Hubs made gumbo, and R1 threw up while in the bathroom and missed the toilet.

Obnoxious
Let me start by saying that R1 did not get hurt last night, He played well. So prayers answered. And we also got our butts handed to us.
But the opposing teams fans...OBNOXIOUS!
There was no other way to describe it. We had some friends whose son played for the opposing team so I went over there to say hi and catch up a bit since we hadn't seen each other since baseball. And the whole time I was over there the parents were screaming and yelling and blowing air horns. Totally obnoxious! And the longer the game went on the worse it got.
I kept thinking 1. this is a jr. high football game and 2. hello, you are winning! Have you not looked at the score board?
I'm so glad our fans do not act like that.
Oh and next week we play my niece and nephews team. My niece is a cheerleader and she said she would cheer to her side but then turn on to the field and yell GO R1! My nephew is a year older so we will actually get to sit and enjoy watching him play.
And that's it for the football report. We got home at 9pm and I'm exhausted. So night peeps. Sleep well.

Yeah, I Still Don't Like It
Just so y'all know, I still hate the new blogger format. And I would really like to blame it for the reason I haven't been blogging or commenting as much. But that is only part of the reason.
And I was going to end it there but for some reason all this stuff in my head is just kinda spilling out and needs to be posted somewhere. So here it goes.
I admit it, I fell off the comment wagon. I love going to the blogs and I know I'm supposed to show some bloggy love and leave a comment, but..... I don't. I have no excuse, I won't even try to make one. It takes 3.8 seconds to leave a comment so why I don't has escaped me.
Also life has kinda taken over here. School is back in which means homework. I don't really even know I mention this because Hubs is the one who usually helps the boys. He and boys get home before I do so they do what they can and they are almost always done by the time I walk in the door.
Also R2's school work is requiring more attention. Y'all know he has dyslexia and that word is enough to make me twitch. Just kidding. No I'm not. Not because he has it but because of the extra work it takes to make sure he understands it and gets done with what he needs to do and then making sure it is correct. R2 has to work harder and has more to do than R1 ever did in the second grade. Positive side, we are getting through it.
My English class is going well. I'm doing OK and have my first major test this week. We've had five quizzes and to be honest, I bombed one. Kinda got me discouraged but I bounced right back the next week and made a hundred. So I must have been off the other night. Also it doesn't help that we only have five questions and you also only have five minutes to take it.FIVE MINUTES. Twitch. So that's one minute per question. Twitch. So no pressure. Ha! I'm going to try and do my test this weekend. At least I have an hour and twenty minutes to take it.
R1 has a big game Thursday. We are playing a school known for the their football program. And their 7th grade boys always look more like high school kids or grown men. So believe me when I say I'm covering R1 in prayer. I want him to have fun and win. But I want him safe and free from injury more.
Well that's it, brain is empty.
Peace out!

The Football Bug
Most of you have been around here for a while know that I'm not much of a football person. Baseball yes, Hockey yes, football not so much.
So this year R1 decided to play football. He has several weeks of practice under his belt along with two winning games. Two weeks ago I came home to find R1 and Hubs sitting in front of his computer watching the video of each one of R1's plays. They sat that way for over an hour.
And then to top it off, football has also dominated the TV. The Texans, Florida, A&M, and other game they find on.
I'm so proud of him. It's gonna take some getting used to but I love watching him play!

Meatball sandwichs
The other day I was looking around on Pinterest. To be honest, I hadn't been on it in a while and I was really looking for something that I had pinned some time ago.
But when I went to the site, these meatball sandwiches just popped out at me. So I pinned them thinking this would be a quick easy meal for sometime in the future. Little did I know it would be the near future.
I was telling Hubs about them and he said that sounded like a great meal to try out Sunday night. So guess what we had last night for dinner...
Meatball sandwiches. And they were yummy! Thanks Pinterest.

Hawks
R1 had his first pep rally and football game last Thursday. A friend was at the pep rally and snapped this picture. I love it!
Oh and we won, 38-8! Go Hawks!

Still The One
Fifteen years ago, today, Hubs and I said "I do".
Hard to believe that fifteen years ago this adventure started. And what an adventure we have been on.
Thank you for being my best friend and the best partner I could have ever wanted.
You're the still one!
Happy Anniversary, I love you!

Literature
American Literature to be exact.
Anne Bradstreet, Mary Rowlandson, Jonathan Edwards, J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur and plenty more to come in the weeks ahead.
I have found each one of them interesting on some level. Their stories have intrigued me.
I still haven't decided if I'm liking them because I'm older and I have more tolerance. Or if I just want to read it and move on so I can hurry up and graduate. Or if I really am interested in this period of time. I think it's a little bit of all three.
All I know is I have 12 more weeks.
I CAN AND I WILL DO THIS!

A little of this and a little of that
Last week was a bit crazy around here.
Let me start off with the bad, I bombed a quiz. I should have known better than to begin it when I wasn't completely prepared and it showed. While I'm mad at myself I knew at some point this might happened. The good thing is it's early in the semester and I have time to bring my grade up.
R1's first football game was supposed to be on Thursday but it rained all day and it was still raining when school let out so they canceled the game. The good news is my dad and both of my in-laws will be there for this Thursday's game. Which is also our homecoming and it's also Hub's and I anniversary.
I have a dear friend who had some testing done early last week and facing possible surgery some time this week. Her faith in God has been so strong but this week has been rough on her. So if you don't mind please say a prayer for her.
And I will leave you with snippet of a conversation that took place between Hubs and R2 during the Texans vs. Jaguars game on Sunday...
Hubs: GO TATE! GO TATE! TOUCHDOWN!!!
R2: Dad, you know he can't hear you.
I love that kid!

We must never forget

We must never forget 9-11 and what that means for our country. I'm sure each of you can remember exactly what you were doing when you heard the news, I know I do.
Here is a story I posted last year.
2977, we must never forget. I will never forget.

I hate it when a title eludes me
It's late and I'm a little delirious at this point. So I'm going to try and recap the weekend.
School is going OK. I'm already ahead on this coming weeks assignments. I'm actually enjoying the readings. I know call me old or crazy. I guess these things just come with age.
And if that wasn't enough for me to add to my plate, I volunteered to be the children's director at our church. Sweet mercy, what was I thinking! Really I was asked by a committee and I prayed about it long and hard before I accepted. I think it will really be a blessing to me, at least that is what I'm praying for.
Saturday night Hubs and I had date night. Let me tell you what date night consisted of, going to Academy and wasting 20-30 minutes, they didn't have what we were looking for. Shocker I know. I was so surprised I got out of there without spending one dime. Guess that kinda makes up for all of the other times I've gone in and dropped $150-$200.
Then we went to eat at Pappadeaux's I'm sorry if you don't have one by you. That's some good eatin' Cajun food. And then date night ended with a trip to HEB. I'm still trying to figure out how we spent more on groceries without the boys than I do when they go with me.
Today we went to church, which we had a great sermon on marriage. At one point I was giggling so much I thought I might have to get up and leave. Then we were invited to go out to lunch. After I came home and tried to read some but I ended up taking a nap. Sleep won over American Lit.
But the best part of the day was watching my niece be baptized. I'm so proud of her. She is a beautiful girl, inside and out.
So I'm off to find Mr. Sandman. Because I'm hoping he brings me a dream.

Go me!
Well I just finished my first weeks assignment, early. It wasn't officially due until Tuesday. I managed to read both sections, watch the video, participate in the discussion board and take my quiz in about 3 three days.
Oh and I scored an 80 on my quiz. Not bad for someone that has been out of the college setting for over 12 years.
So yes, today I'm tooting my horn, because next week who knows, it might be me driving around town with either my blinker left turned on or my seat belt hanging out of the door while I cruise down the road.
I'm off to get a jump on week 2.

The Norton Anthology
So my first official class day is tomorrow but my instructors have already put up the first two weeks assignments.
And being the over achiever that I am, I dove in head first. My book, The Norton Anthology American Literature is 3,027 pages. Yep not kidding.
And so far I've got two assignments this week and the first is to read fifteen pages. But let me tell you those were the longest fifteen pages EVER!! I swear I felt like I had more of a history lesson than a lesson in American Literature. Names and dates and time frames. Blech! History was not my strongest subject.
So I made though the first fifteen pages and I have another assignment tomorrow of about fifteen more pages.
The whole point to this is this, I might me MIA. I really want to to do well with class. I've set the expectation bar high for myself. Which means everything else will take a backseat. Quite possibly even clean clothes and food in the pantry will take a direct hit. Just kidding. Not really.
So if I'm gone you'll know I'm knee deep in American Lit. And who knows maybe Hubs might high jack this old blog to let you know I'm reading an adventure about Christopher Columbus and how he sailed the ocean blue in 1492. See told you more of history lesson.

Three day weekends are never long enough
I know we had an extra day off the weekend and don't get me wrong but it's still never enough for me.
We spent all weekend at the lake with my in-laws and some great friends. We have out on the water tubing, skiing, knee boarding, and swimming.
Oh and of course we ate way to much, a ton of BBQ, and lots of sides dishes and plenty of tea to drink.
Now I'm pretty much exhausted and in desperate need of 12 hours of sleep. But here are a few pictures from our weekend-o-fun!

Hello Friday
Thank goodness it's Friday, I seriously don't think I could have gone one more day.
School has started back up, it has been kicking my butt! This routine thing is throwing me for a loop. The new thing in our normal school routine is Jr. High Athletics.
R1 has football practice everyday at 6:30AM. And I don't know why I'm griping about it because Hubs takes him. But I do have to get up at 5AM so that I can start to get myself together and then get the boys up and out the door by 6:10. R1 has been great about getting up to. He's loving football. First game is in a couple of weeks and I'm excited to see him play.
R2 is having a good year so far. He loves his teacher and his best buds are in his class. Lets see how long before she separates the musketeers.
Anyway we will be heading to the lake and we are ready for a weekend full of family, some great food, and fun in the sun.
So I'll see you peeps on Tuesday. Peace out!

Hurricane Isaac
Well Hurricane Isaac has by passed us. Thank you God.
It's not a very strong hurricane but it's big and moving very slowly which will cause flooding. Right now I'm watching the Weather Channel and keep talking about the possibility of the levies breaking again and they keep mentioning it's the eve of Hurricane Katrina.
So with everyone's stress level maxed out please remember to keep all in the path of this storm in your prayers.

Spock Nation
While channel surfing last night through our 827,000 channels trying to find something to watch I came across a channel that caught my eye.
I thought it said Spock nation. And I immediately thought how strange to have cable channel set up for a fictitious TV/movie character.
Then I took a second look and it really said Spook Nation. And it's not even what you're thinking.
No scary haunted buildings, not even one ghost.
It has to do with hunting whitetail dear. The host of the show is named William "Spook" Spann. He was born on Halloween which is how he got the nick name Spook. And yes I Googled the show to get this information.
But seriously couldn't he have come up with a better name and Spook Nation. I keep waiting for someone to jump out and say BOO!

My Memories scrapbook software GIVE-A-AWAY
A few weeks ago My Memories digital scrapbook software company contacted me and asked if I would be interested in doing a review for them. I was very excited to review their software because I'm what I call a "has been scrapbooker"
I used to scrapbook all the time. My books were almost current. I couldn't spend enough time in Hobby Lobby looking at all of material and planning out which items I wanted to each page and so on. But lets face it, since R2 was born I've done a bad job of keeping up with my books. I still have tons of pictures; just no time to pull all of my stuff out and get started. This is where I fell in love with the scrapbook software.
My Memories scrapbook software gives you the ease of using pre-made templates or creating your own. Just like you would do for your hands on scrapbooks. They have wide variety of pages, fonts, embellishments, and so much more. Most of us download our pictures on to our computers and say "Oh one day I'll do something with them." Now you can with My Memories. And you can do it quickly, so you have a finished page to show off.
Another great thing about this software is you can print the pages you make and put them in a book. Or you can email them to family and friends. You could also put them on your blog.
And My Memories scrapbook software has graciously offered to give one of my readers/commentators a free downloadable copy of their software. FREE!!!
All you need to do is go to their site, look around, find a few things you like, come back here and leave me a comment telling what your favorite item was. I'll leave the comments open until some time Thursday night. At that time I'll let the random number picker thingy do it's thing and I'll announce the winner on Friday.
Oh and here are a few things I did with my software.

Just another weekend
I would love to say we had wild weekend and it was chock full of fun but we had absolutely nothing planned.
I'm glad we really didn't' have plans because at some point Saturday night I began to feel sick and I went to bed at 8:30. Yep that's right 8:30pm. And I slept until 8:30 the next morning. I think I my body was telling me I needed 12 hours of sleep, because that never happens. NEVER!
The boys are off for one more adventure before school begins. The grandparents have taken them on a three day trip. I'm sure it will involve swimming, boat rides, and a visit to the zoo.
What this means is Hubs and I have time to ourselves. I'm sure this means dinner out, no Disney channel shows and more sleep.
So y'all have a great day and don't forget my give away for some great scrap booking software tomorrow!

2 More Days
That's right Hubs, I know you are reading, 2 more days. 2 more days of no school, no schedule, and no sleeping in.
And don't threaten me with shutting down house for the few days. I think you already have.
You did the laundry but didn't fold it for two days so every thing wrinkled. Then I know you said you got distracted and left a few wet clothes in the basket between other clothes.
Oh and then there's the kitchen floor, but won't even go there.
Don't get me wrong. I do appreciate all of the cooking you do. You are great at it and it works out good for me that you like to cook. And you do straighten up when I ask you to. I will miss my temporary house cleaner and full time cook when you go back to work.
But all this just ask what do you and the boys do for everyday, all day long? I'm just curious.
Oh and don't forget to tell your friends about the scrapbook give away next Tuesday! Have a great weekend.

Back to school
The first day of school is approaching fast. Not only for hubs and the boys but for me to.
Yep, I bit the bullet and registered for some college courses. Hubs finished his masters degree back in December and now it's my turn to finish my degree.
I started back before the boys were born but life kinda took over and I just stopped. So now I am ready to finish. The best part about my classes is that everything is online. That's right the program I am in is completely online. No sitting in a classroom. No taking time off of work or going to class at night. All online!!
And as an adult I can say this...I'm excited about going back to college. I don't think my 20 something year old self would ever have said that.

Give away coming soon!
A few weeks ago I received an email from a scapbooking company. They mentioned they saw my blog and thought I might be interested in doing a review for them on their software. They said they would send me copy of their entire program for me to download and try it out.
And to be honest, I don't get many reviews. In fact this is my first one. And I was a bit leery so I emailed Hubs and asked him to see if it was legit.
Once he confirmed it was OK, I emailed the company back and said I would love to do a review on their product. So they sent me a code to download everything. And as a bonus, I get to give away a copy of the software.
But for all my readers there will be a coupon code to receive $10.00 off of the software and $10.00 to use in their store.
Be looking for the review and the GIVEAWAY next Tuesday. So tell all of your friends!

Nick
Nick, who is my best friend Beth's son, is leaving for college on Friday. 8 hours away, in another state.
I'm excited for him to head off on this new adventure. I'm also excited to see how God is going to use him on his journey into the ministry.
It's really bittersweet. I have had the chance to watch him grow over the past four years. My boys have looked up to Nick. He has become part of our family just as we have become part of his. We have even set up traditions. 4th of July and New Year's Eve fireworks. Going to look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve, after we have made pizzas, lots of pizzas.
I know Beth is going to miss him but you know what, so am I.

And so is R2!

Happy Birthday Hubs
Happy Birthday Hubs!
I would make a list of things according to your age but I don't know if I could come up with 38 things in this short amount of time.
So I will just say this, thank you for loving me. Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for being an amazing father to our boys. Thank you for being a spiritual leader for our family. Thank you for just being you.

I love you and I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Possibly the best spaghetti sauce commercial
Hubs and I were watching the Olympics last while we were laying in bed. The boys kept coming in and out of our room.
When all of a sudden this commercial came. I seriously don't think it wouldn't have been as funny if we weren't laying in bed.
OK it was still funny!

It's just about over
I can not believe it's August. What in the heck happened to June and July. I swear I think I blinked and July was over.
School starts back in just a few short weeks. I have managed to purchase all of the school supplies a last week. All the boys need is a new pair of shoes and we're all set. Speaking of I think I'm going to shop for those this weekend so I can say I'm completely done.
I want to make the most out of what is left of the summer. I want to chill out and relax. I want to take the boys on another trip to the lake.
So what are y'all doing to make the most of the last few weeks of summer?

Family photos, finally
We have been trying to schedule family pictures since October of last year. For one reason or another I would always have to reschedule.
But finally we were able to have our session.
Here is a sneak peak.
I can't wait to see the others!

Cars part 2
Thanks everyone for your input on my car search. I'm still looking.
My current car is Honda Pilot, '03 to be exact. We bought it a month after they came out with the Pilots in October of 2002. It has 189,000 miles on it. Yes that's right 189. That's some serious driving.
I have kinda narrowed my search down. Honda CR-V or Hyundai Tuscon. Now the next question is new or used. And if used how old and how many miles.
I kinda know what I want on the car as far as accessories go and I know where I want my payments to be. I have also told myself that if I can't find what I want in a small SUV then maybe it's time to go back to a car. And if that's the case, I don't even know where to begin. So many choices.
I can tell you this...I'm already sick of shopping for cars and we haven't even got to the haggling part.

Cars
I hate shopping for new cars. I used to love it. now it's just a pain. I think that comes with age.
And to prove I don't like shopping for cars. I'm on my third Honda. I had a Civic when Hubs and I got married almost 15 years ago. Then we brought an Accord for him to drive, which I ended up with when I was pregnant with R1, and now I'm currently driving a Pilot. While I still love my Pilot it's almost 10 yrs old.
When we purchased my Pilot, it only had 3 miles it. I'll let you guess how many it has now.
Knock on wood we've only had one major repair but it's beginning to give me some trouble.
I'm thinking I want another Honda. Maybe a CR-V. I really do not need the space my car has and with gas prices I want something with a little better gas mileage.
So what do y'all drive and do you have any recommendations?

School Shopping
Yep it's that time again to where I begin to think about school clothes and supply shopping.
Every year R2's school sends home a list for the next school year. They use an online company which makes it so easy to just order and have it delivered to your home. But this also makes it more expensive.
Last year I saved almost half of the price from the list by just going to Target myself and purchasing supplies. This year the prices of R2's school supply list from the school was $62.50. That's pretty darn expensive for supplies for second grade. So last night we headed to Target and hit the school supply aisle. I also ended up purchasing R1's supplies as well.
I spent a total of $75 for both boys. R2's was 43.35. That's a significant savings. And R1's was around $30-31 dollars.
The best part of all of this? I'm done and I won't have to fight the crowds later on.

It's gone, kaput, broken, can't fix
My blogging mojo is kaput. I can't seem to get it together for more than two days, if that, to put up a post.
I'm blaming summer time and the fact that I want to go back to the Frio River. And we have an upcoming trip to the lake. It's showing I'm still in vacation mode.
So since I managed to put something up today, I guess that means I don't have to blog the first part of next week. So don't look for anything on Monday or Tuesday.
OK, that's it for today. Y'all have a great one.

Grandparent camp again
It's that time of year again where the boys go off to grandparent camp.
I love grandparent camp because not only does it give the boys one on one time with them but also gives Hubs and I time alone with the other left at home.
R2 is at camp and R1 is hanging out at home. Tonight we went out to dinner and then came home and played several games of Uno. It was great!
Right now he and I are sitting in the livingroom watching Spiderman, his choice.
So if I'm outta touch this week, I'm spending time my oldest child. And enjoying every minute of it.

Dodgeball
R1 had a birthday while we were on vacation. And because I knew what our schedule would be like when we returned, I decided to have his party before we left to go to the Frio River.
He had mentioned that he wanted to have a dodgeball party. I thought was a great idea for a bunch of 11-13 year old boys. So I started calling around to places back in March to get an idea what was available and at what price.
Let me just say that I should really consider going into the party business. Every place I called was outrageous. $250.00 just for the place. And he could only invite 8 kids. 8 KIDS total. Any thing over 8 would cost me an extra $10.00 per kid. Oh and the allotted time frame for the party...an hour and a half. So with him as one and his brother as another that left only 6. And to be honest you really can't have a game of dodgeball with just 8 kids.
I started to think of another option, but then one day we were up at our church and doing something which I can not recall right now, but I know we were helping the youth take care of some stuff in our hug gym. And I thought why not have the party at the church gym.
The best part, first off, is it was free because we are members of the church. Second he could invite as many kids as he wanted, no extra charge. Third we could have the party for as long as we wanted because I reserved the gym all day. Hubs borrowed two bags of dodgeball balls from his school. And we also bought several pizzas and can drinks too.
It was a one of the best parties we have ever had. I know the adults had just as much fun as the kids. And lets just say I know exactly where my kids get their competitive nature from and it's not Hubs.

The Bubble
Saturday morning after the boys autograph session with the Houston Astros, we took a walk to get something to eat. We would have stayed at the ball park but after autographs they ask you leave until the gates open.
We went to Subway at 11:30AM on a Saturday morning in downtown Houston. Any of you that live in Houston know what goes on on a Saturday morning in downtown Houston. There are homeless people every where. They are asked to leave the missions where they slept the night and they wander aimlessly around the streets of downtown.
So we get to Subway which is about 7 blocks from Minute Maid Park and turn the corner and find to homeless guys arguing. The are screaming at one another to go home. My first thought was to just get the boys inside, but my next thought was where are they going home to, under a bridge.
Anyway R2 asked why they were arguing and telling each other to go home. I just looked at him and told I didn't know and it was really none of our business why they were arguing.
Next another homeless man walks into the store and begins to ask everyone for food or money. The manager eventually kicks him out.
After that I look out the window to see another person picking up trash off the street and drinking the cups he found but throwing all of the other stuff in the trash. R1 sees this and asks why he was drinking from the trash. He's old enough to understand and so I begin to explain. He responds with his usual OK.
Then another homeless man walks into Subway and locks himself in the bathroom. The manager comes and bangs on the door and threatens to call the police if he doesn't get out.
At this point both boys are looking and asking why. We explain once again. He was soaking up the A/C, getting a drink, and cleaning himself up. When R2 asks why he didn't just go home. Again more explaining as to why he may not have a home.
As we were walking back to the ballpark, Hubs was explaining to the boys some different circumstances as to why these people are they way the are, homeless.
There was an endless supply of reasons. But it made me realize what a little bubble my children live in. My children had never been exposed to the homeless side of life. They've helped out with delivering food supplies to the less fortunate during baseball season, but not flat out homeless.
I have to say I was proud that they didn't just burst out with normal or loud questioning tone of voice. They very quietly asked their questions and we did the best we could to explain. They saw how rough life can be and why things might turn out that way.
For a brief moment, as much as I like to keep them sheltered from certain things, our bubble popped and they got a life lesson that I don't I could have ever taught them.

Oh what to blog about...
I have several things I could mention this old blog, but my post vacation self is TIRED!
It's been a whirl wind of busy. We had R1's 12th birthday party before we left. Then there was the washing and cleaning so we could come home to a clean house and minimal laundry. Then there was the week at the Frio River. Oh and one day at Fiesta Texas. Then we came home and this past Saturday the boys had an autograph with the Houston Astros and the later that day the actual game against the Brewers. And the boys ended up at some point during the game on the big jumbo tron. The Astros won Saturday!!! And to top it off, VBS every night this week.
Where am I going with all of this you ask? Well if I want to actually blog about any this I have pictures to go with it and right now I don't even want to get up out of my recliner. Cookie is sleeping in the recliner with me and my legs are propped up on either side of her and I'm getting ready to settle down with a book.
So I hope y'all had a great Monday and if you hear some snoring in about 15 minutes don't worry, it's just me and Hubs will wake me when it's time to go to bed.

Oh Frio River, how I love thee
We went on vacation this past week in case you didn't notice the lack of blogging.
I had it all planned out to. I was going to put up a few posts while we were gone but with all of the laundry and packing and making sure we made it out of the house with everything we needed since we were not going to be close to a town with a store, I was wiped out! I just couldn't focus long enough to put up one post let alone four.
And in case you are wondering we went to the Frio River. We actually stayed in Concan, Texas.
It was the four of us, well the five of us, we took Cookie. Our friends, Deb and Cliff. Then Christi, Randall and their kids. Tammy and her daughter. Robin, her husband, and her precious new baby boy. Let's just say I got all of the baby love I wanted. And he was so sweet and I enjoyed every minute of it.
We played in the river for a few days and we also hit Fiesta Texas.
I grew up going to Astroworld in Houston and since it closed down there was no chance my kids would ever get to experience it.Debbie had given us free tickets to get into Fiesta. As soon as we got into the park, R2 rode the Boomerang roller coaster with Tammy, Christi, and Randall. It was his first coaster to ride and I was a bit nervous because I don't do more than one loop and absolutely no twisting. I'll spare you the details as to why I don't do roller coasters like that.
Bottom line is he love it! He came off the ride smiling and ready to go. He and I ended up riding the Road Runner together. He was so funny.
We stayed six hours at Fiesta Texas. We did everything we could do. The lines weren't long and even though it was 97 degrees there was always a breeze blowing. And the boys kept telling Hubs and I how it was the best day of their lives. They had a great time!
But after the heat from the amusement park the Frio River was calling our name once again. We spent and entire day in the river. Just playing and floating and relaxing.
It really was the perfect vacation.

Twelve
Twelve years ago today God blessed me with a precious son.
He has made me laugh till my sides hurt. He has made me so mad that I thought I could scream for days. He has made me so proud my cheeks hurt from smiling at him. He has made my heart burst with love. He has made me have that twinge that I wish I could go back in time and just snuggle him close and carry him in my arms.
He has made me be a better mom. He has loved me with all of my faults just because I am his mom.
He is smart, handsome, funny, sweet, serious, and amazing. And best of all he is just my son.
Happy 12th birthday R1. I love you!

Doggie Dilemma #8
OK to be honest, Monday I was just dang tired to post anything for Tuesday. I went to bed at 8:40pm. I know such an exciting life. Oh and R2 was laying in bed with me watching Phineas and Ferb.So you know I was tired if I went to bed with R2 in my bed and the TV on.
Anyway back to the doggie dilemma. Last night I was in the back yard watching R2 swim and Cookie wander off to take care of her business. When she came back she was limping on her right front paw.
Being the calm person I am, NOT! I started to freak out. Just like I do when something happens with the boys. Like the time R2 had to get three stitches and he was just 2 months shy of turning 2. So I walked over to her and picked her up and brought inside. I started to look at her paw and look in between the pads on her paws. I let her get up but she wouldn't even put an pressure on it at one point.
So I immediately called my friend Christi, who is my vet, the only thing is Christi lives in another city so she couldn't bring Cookie to see her. But I told her what was wrong and what she was doing.
She didn't seem to think it was an emergency as Cookie would let me touch it and straighten her leg out and so one. She thought she might have gotten stung or bit by a bug or even the hot ground might have gotten her as it's been 108 outside. She said to give her 25mg of Benadryl and then another dose tomorrow. Oh and also try to keep her off her leg as much as possible. That should be fun.
But right now she is laying in the recliner with me and sleeping.
I pray she will be fine. I don't like doggie dilemmas. They stress me out almost as much as when something happens to the boys. Guess that's because she's my furry kid.

We bought a pie
We bought a pie. I know so exciting. But let me tell you why we bought a pie.
Our church held a pie auction last night for a mission trip that some of our people are taking to Latvia. Which in case you don't know is in the Baltic region of Northern Europe.
Our music minister is married to a wonderful lady who is from Latvia and just to throw this out there to, their daughter is precious.
Anyway, a group from our church went last year and started the first stage of putting a new roof on the church. Now this year they are going again to put flooring in the church. And to help raise some money the church held a pie auction where all of the proceeds went the mission trip.
There were over fifty pies and some sold for only $30.00 while others sold for over $200.00. It was great event and I'm glad we were able to participate.
And here is the pie, or what's left of the pie we bought. We bid on a coconut lemon cheesecake. I'm so glad we won this pie, it was awesome. And the reason it's half gone is we shared it with some of the people at the auction.
YUM!!!

Fashion Friday's that aren't
Like you didn't know. I guess here on this blog I'm not good with the follow through. But is only here on the blog because well here, I'm the boss and I can do what I want.
That and I really wanted to do something only regarding plus size clothes and it just didn't turn out the way I had hoped so I don't think I'll be doing them any more. But you never know I might decided to just one day do a random post about some cute shorts or a fabulous shirt I found. But for now, fashion Friday's have been phased out.
Moving on
If y'all don't mind please keep R1 and the other youth from our church in your prayers. They are taking a road trip this weekend. Pray for safe travel to and from and pray that God would use them and speak to them in a big way over the next few days. Thanks!
Also on the agenda for the weekend....nothing! I don't know if I can stand it. Three weekends in a row. NICE.
Actually tonight we are going to an ice social. My brother in law is the new Superintendent of Schools for his district and after their official board meeting they are throwing a little get together in his honor so we will be attending that.
Saturday I'm thinking maybe a little retail therapy might be in order and maybe even some body therapy in the form a pedicure.
So y'all have a great weekend and I'll see ya on Monday.

The mundane
Well it's summer and things right now are very ordinary. I kinda like it like that. Things were so CrAzY the last month of school, with baseball, end of school activities, meetings, parties, and church youth functions. I'm enjoying the mundane.
Not to much has been happening around her. Staying up late, sleeping later than normal, trying to plan a vacation, keeping the house picked up, (a losing battle) and trying to keep up with the laundry. (another losing battle)
I was trying really hard to get back into the habit of posting everyday and commenting everyday on the blogs I read. But the truth is I'm still in my "lurking mode" and it's really not all that interesting posting every day about pretty much nothing.
So since it's only 10:30pm and the boys are all settled down. I think I'm off to bed.
Come back tomorrow maybe I'll a bizarre dream that I can blog about to spice things up a bit.

One Was Johnny
When I was little my mother used to take my brother and I every Saturday to the Sharpstown Public Library in Houston, where I grew up.
For some reason or another by brother and I were hooked on Carole King's children's songs. Most of her songs were written for children's books written by none other than Maurice Sendak. My brother and I loved his books too. I knew Where the Wild Things Are backwards and forwards.
Anyway, the library used to check out records and we always checked out the album, Nutshell Library, which had four volumes of stories: Alligators All Around, Chicken Soup With Rice, One Was Johnny, and Pierre.
We would play that record over and over and over. It seemed we never got tired of it. I found a clip for One Was Johnny and I watched it about three times. Apparently I'm still mesmerized by it. That and my kids thought I was nuts.
Here is clip that still brings a smile to my face.

The Moth
I hope everyone had a great father's day. We hung around the house after church and did much of nothing. I even got in a nap. It was glorious!
The other day R2 was out in the backyard and called Hubs and I to come look at something.
On our porch under the overhang was a HUGE moth. I don't think I had ever seen one that big before.
And here is a picture of said moth.

What I'm wearing for the family photos
Thank you all so much for the input on what we should wear.
We are going with the navy/red theme.
I found this shirt last night. Actually I found it online but they didn't have my size so I drove over to Lane Bryant to see if they even had the shirt.
And the best part...1) it was on sale. 2) and a lady that was checking out next to me offered me her real woman dollars, it's like Kohls cash, and after the sale and the dollars it was half price!!
That never happens to me. So thank you again to the lady shopping at Lane Bryant last night. I appreciate it.

Family pictures
So in a few weeks this family is having family pictures taken. I would be so excited except that I have only been trying to schedule them since November, of last year.
Every time we get a date set I would have to cancel and reschedule. I'm hoping this date is it.
But now I have a dilemma. What in the heck do we wear. I have some cute plaid, mostly green plaid button up shirts for the boys and Hubs even has a green plaid shirt too. And that would be easy because I could try and find a navy shirt for me.
But we did green and white in 2007, can't believe it's been that long for our last family pictures.
I have to say I'm even thinking about letting the boys wear shorts. It's gonna be SOOOOOO HOT by the time we take pictures. If not then jeans for sure.
So I'm open to suggestions. I thought about maybe me in red and the boys in blue. I don't know I just don't really want us all in the same solid color. We've done that before too. White shirts and khaki pants.
Ok so any thought?

The fort
Big Guy decided after hunting season was over he wasn't going to renew his deer lease. So today he and Duh-Duh came over and brought Big Guy's deer stand.
This is a stand like no other. It has stairs to get into it. It has carpet. It has a metal roof. It has shelves and plexiglass windows that can be opened. The door even has a lock. And I'm sure at some point you could even add a heater/A/C unit.
But right now, it's sitting in my back yard and the boys have turned it into their spy fort. They even got out the walkie talkies to play.
And if I wasn't so dang tired I'm sure I could figure out how to get a txt message picture off of my phone so I could post it on here. Maybe I'll try tomorrow. Maybe.

The grandparents
At the end of school R1 had his last band concert for the year. And in true grandparent fashion Big Guy and Duh-Duh came to watch.
They drove an hour and a half just to watch for 20 minutes and then drove back home. They do things like this all time for all of the grand kids.
And here is a picture of them with R1 after the concert.
I am truly blessed to have them as my in-laws.

First day of summer vacation
This is how we spent our first day of summer vacation.
If you ask me, I think it's a great first day!

It's over
Well y'all knew how my weekend was going to go but what I didn't know what that I was going to be spending 12 hours at the ball park Saturday for our closing day tournament.
Yes, that's right folks, 12 hours. And to be totally honest, I loved every minute of it.
R2 had a game that morning and we had to be there by 8:30. And they would play another game later that morning. And it kinda went all down hill after that. The games ran longer than normal and that ended up pushing everything back by thirty minutes to an hour. At one point, R1 and R2 were playing at the same time and I just kinda camped out between both fields.
R1's team lost and then R2's team lost. But they both played hard. R2 even made an out home.
We did end up leaving for about 2 hours to go and each lunch with R1's team. It was a nice way to end the season.
We came back at 4:30pm for R2's closing ceremonies that actually didn't begin until almost 5:30pm. R1's closing ceremony was scheduled to begin at 6:30 but started closer around 7pm.
By the time it was all said and done we pulled out of the ball park at 8:45pm.
I have to say it was a great season and I'm kinda sad it's over. I'm gonna miss my baseball family. Way to go CARDINALS!!
Yes, that's right folks, 12 hours. And to be totally honest, I loved every minute of it.
R2 had a game that morning and we had to be there by 8:30. And they would play another game later that morning. And it kinda went all down hill after that. Fashion Friday-that didn't happen
OK since I'm still recovering and Hubs is down for the count, which translate into I had the boys all to myself last night and we just kinda hung out and talked and watched t.v. so I never got around surfing the net.
And today is the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Hallelujah! No more trying to wake up the boys every morning only to hear, MOM, I need five more minutes. And trying to figure out what to serve for breakfast. Oh and I'm now the mom of a 7th grader and a 2nd grader. Seriously time can just stop at any moment.
And tonight we have high school graduation for my friend Beth's son. Saturday both boys have a tournament and some where in there closing ceremonies for baseball. Sunday our church is recognizing the graduates and Hubs is included because remember in December he got his Masters degree. I think it's cool they are recognizing him as well. Anyway the church is taking the graduates and their families out to lunch.
So I guess there you have it my weekend recap before it happens. I know efficient, it's my middle name. NOT!
Y'all have a great weekend. GO CARDINALS!!
