There's a whole lot of nothing going on

That's it, nothing. Just lazy days of summer.

Lots of hanging out. Lots of cooking on the grill, well that really happens any time of the year.

We've been spending time with friends, swimming till we are pruney and sleeping till 9 every morning. NOT! R2 wakes up as soon as the sun is out and thinks everyone in the house should be awake too.

Baseball is over but I haven't missed it yet, only because the boys have been practicing in the front yard. Ask me next week though, I'm sure my answer will change.

Oh wait we are varying from our normal routine today. The boys need hair cuts. They are really starting to look like shaggy dogs. But other than that, it's just a nothing happening day.

Maybe we'll spice it up a bit and go to Sonic for Happy Hour.

It's all about the weekend and the food

OK by the time this post up, we will have been out of town for the weekend. And it was one of the best weekends I have had.

We spent the weekend in Houston with some great friends that I really consider my family. And we swam till we were completely water logged. Ate some of the best homemade guacamole I have ever had. And got to love on three very sweet children.

When we got home Sunday, I volunteered to cook dinner. I know Hubs usually does all of the cooking but I figured I would give him a break. That and I saw a fabulous recipe earlier in the week that Jo-Lynne of Musings of a Housewife had talked about that I wanted to try. (I linked directly back to her post with the recipe since it was a few days ago.)

Shaved Parmesan Chicken & Lemon Creme.

It was awesome!! The recipe is lengthy but not hard, so that is one reason I linked back to her, which will take you to another blog for the original recipe. And the second reason is Jo-Lynne's blog is pretty fantastic. But don't take my word for it, go check it out.

Any way, back to me cooking dinner.

I will tell you this, I did ask Hubs to help me and he graciously stayed in the kitchen.

It was a great summer dish. Light, not heavy and we served it with a salad and nothing else.

I do know this, I will definitely need to buy more mushrooms, most of them were gone. And there were some pretty clean plates when we got done too.

Here's a picture of the finished product...

Now if there was only smell and taste on here. YUM!

I blame it all on the heat

I know I know I didn’t put a post up for two days in row.

Here’s the deal. It’s hot. I’m spent. Brain dead. Tired to the max. I can’t think straight. It’s hot! Baseball season is over, for now. School is out. Did I mention IT’S HOT! And since it is summer, I’m giving myself the freedom to blog or not to blog. If I don’t put up a post every day or if I skip two days in a row, it’s OK.

I will be consistently inconsistent.

I hope y’all have a great weekend. Stay cool, it’s hot outside! And I may or may not see you on Monday.

Hubs has mad cooking skillz

I was looking through my drafts folder and realized I had quiet a few I never got around to posting. So here is something that has been in my folder for almost a year.

June 21, 2011

I know I've mentioned it a time or two that Hubs has some awesome cooking skillz! Yes with a "z" because that's how I roll.

The other day Hubs bought some shrimp and grilled it along with some veggies. And I sauteed some yellow squash.

And our neighbor who has a garden brought us over and entire bag of home grown tomatoes. There is nothing like a home grown tomato or cucumber. A little sprinkle of salt and pepper and it's just perfection. I sliced a few of them up and served them as a side.

Let's just say dinner was awesome! Hubs really out did himself.

And just to make you envious...

My little All Star

I hope all the dad's out there had a wonderful Father's Day.

We had weekend full of baseball. R2 had his All Star tournament.

I'm sad to say we lost both of our games. The boys played their hearts out but it just wasn't in the cards. Sunday's game we should have won and I'm just gonna chalk that one up to bad calls by the umps. I think they were just ready to go because it was so freakin' hot!

But my little All Star played great. He got a couple of triples and doubles. He got a few runs scored. He just did awesome and I'm so proud of him!

I had lunch with...

Yesterday I got to met and have lunch with Amy from Theme Song of the Day.

And before I get started....Thanks for the hug Brooke! Next time you just need to fly here or Amy and I need to take a road trip.

Anyway we met up for some Mexican food at one of my favorite places.

We laughed and talked about everything. I don't even think we stopped talking to eat. We just took turns talking while the other took a bite. She was so real, just like her blog. And she also has a beautiful smile and some amazing hair!

And because I'm such the wonderful blogger, I do not have a picture. I forgot my camera and didn't even think to pull out my phone. But Amy remembered her camera and took a few pictures.

I had a great lunch and loved getting to know her! Hopefully we will get the chance to meet up again.

Acting like an adult

Why is that when things happen and you act like the adult and you are being the bigger person, no notices.

They only seem to notice when you act like complete butt, everyone sits up and takes notice, even the fleas take notice.

There are times you just really want to let it fly, put it out there, speak your mind and tell someone off. But you take the high road and let it be.

Saturday was one of those days. I really wanted to speak my mind. Tell this person off to the ends of the earth. Sometimes I just wish I could blurt out what I really think. In the end, I said nothing and left well enough alone.

I wish more people would say, hey we know you were pretty mad but you acted like the adult and walked away and we noticed. And thanks for being the bigger person and doing the right thing.

All I can say is I know what you did and one day it will come around and bite you in the butt! And I hope I'm there when it does.

OK to be honest, that really didn't make me feel better.

High Ho, High Ho, it's off to the high road I go.......High Ho High Ho High Ho....

What is this stuff that fell from the sky

The other day we had about a 30% chance of rain. And around here 30% usually means 0%.

But the rain Gods were smiling on us. That and I had R1 do a rain dance the day before. As a matter of fact it POURED!! And we needed it. We were about 30 inches short for the year. We're still short but at least now I only have a few brown spots in my yard.

And not only did we get rain we got high winds and hail! I really could do with out the hail but at this stage in the game I'll take what I can get.

Oh and it rained so hard look what it did to my fern... poor thing is beaten down.

That's OK it perked right back up and now looks so pretty.

We have another weekend full of baseball, so if I haven't died of heat exhaustion I'll be back on Monday.

Have a great weekend.

I had to find something to beat this heat

Oh the heat! I seriously don't remember it ever being this hot in early June.

And several time in the past few weeks the weather man has even confirmed this by stating we have had new record highs.

I took a picture with my phone and posted it on Facebook last Saturday where it showed it was 105 at 2pm. 105 PEOPLE!

Any way

When it's this hot I go in search of ice cream. Blue Bell Ice Cream to be exact. During the Summer they come out with a few new flavors. And this year they did not disappoint!

Look what is in my freezer...no it's not the pizza rolls or the guacamole...

COCONUT FUDGE IS THE BOMB! It's like biting into a Mounds candy bar. It's heaven in a container.

And no that little creamery in Brenham Texas did not pay me to plug their ice cream. 1. They don't have to, it's just that good. (sorry all you Northerners) and 2. If they wanted to throw a few gallons my way, I would NEVER EVER turn them down, even if it's 20 below.

I do have to admit something, that little pint of Coconut Fudge only has about 2 maybe 3 bites left and that's if you scrap the sides.

And now I'll leave you with the imaginary sound of me licking my lips because I just finished off that pint of ice cream.

Dumplins' and dogs

I have the most awesome husband!

Last night he stayed up till 11pm cooking chicken and dumplings for me and a few of my co-workers. It's a special request meal. My supervisor is leaving and she is always hearing me brag on Hubs' cooking. So she asked him if he would cook one last meal for her. And her request was chicken and dumplings.

And being that we had a ball game last night that went a tad bit longer than we expected, we won by the way, he was up very late cooking.

While he was making the dumplings, from scratch flour was finding it's way to the floor. And who better to clean up the mess...

COOKIE!

She was in doggie heaven! My floor was spotless when she got but her face, not so much.

Pretty Toes

I know, I couldn't come up with a better title.

But ladies you know it summer time and you know what means...

Keep your toes and feet pretty. Summer feet etiquette is a must.

You polish must be fresh, not chipped or worn. And never paint just the toes that show through those peep toe shoes.

Sand down the callouses and mounds of dead skin. Dry, rough, and chapped feet are just not pretty.

Keep your toe nail length and toe nails nicely trimmed. Nails that click on the floor as you walk are just not attractive.

And just to show that I am following my advice, take a look at what my feet look like after today.

BASEBALL! I know, y'all wouldn't expect me to have anything else.

5th grade TAKS and sleeping on the roof

Well once again the 5th graders have come through. They scored better than 92% on their Science TAKS tests

I have to brag here, my son got commended. That means he missed less than three on the entire test. GO R1!

And because the teachers make them strive for the best, the Science teachers bet them that if they scored 92% or better they would sleep on the roof.

So last night Hubs, because he is one of the Science teachers and Coach Jordan had to sleep on the roof.

Last year there were some severe thunderstorms that came through around 1AM and they had to get down for a while but this year not so much as even a cloud. (Don't get me wrong, I would love it if it rained, we need it so desperately!)

So I hope you had sweet dreams Hubs. I'll see you in a minute when I bring the boys to school!
