So I have lots of things swirling around in my head but I don't know that I can formulate them all into a post.
Friday night R2 had a friend spend the night. We took the boys out to eat at a place where they serve peanuts like a Mexican food restaurant would serve chips and hot sauce. The cool thing about the this place is that you just throw the peanut shells on the floor. But when you take two 7 year old boys, one almost 12 year old boy and a grown man to a place where it's OK to throw peanut shells, we will just say shells were a flyin'.
Then Saturday R1 had to be up at school at 7AM for UIL. I would say 7AM is a terrible hour to be awake on a Saturday, but I was up at 5AM. Which is even worse. I'm one of those people that when I wake up I'm up and can't go back to sleep. So I took R1 to school and then stopped and got donuts for breakfast. Because on Saturday morning at 7:30 nothing says breakfast of champions like fresh donuts.
While R1 was at UIL, Hubs, R2, and I took care of some errands. One of them being grocery shopping. We made it through produce, the meat department, and down the bread aisle when R1 called me to say they were leaving the school where UIL was being held and would be back at their school in about 40 minutes. I have never seen two people cover and entire grocery store in about 35 minutes. I must have looked a mouse in one of those maze things trying to find the cheese. Let's just say I was moving pretty quickly up and down the aisles.
Anyway, we made it and got to school to pick him up. Then we went home to unload all of the stuff we bought and then Hub's grilled chicken for dinner. Right in the middle of grilling dinner, his propane tank ran out. He usually has a spare but for some reason this time he didn't. And being the nice wife, I went back into town and exchanged a tank for him.
After dinner we all watched the movie, Courageous. If you haven't seen it, it is a MUST see. It was so good. I cried through most of the movie. At one point R1 looked at me and asked, mom are you crying AGAIN??? The boys even liked it despite my crying.
Sunday was church and then I had to go back into to town to find a red shirt for baseball. I have a friend who designs rhinestone T-shirts. She is making me one that says "CARDINAL BASEBALL". I can't wait! But I had to find a shirt for her to use. Believe it or not I found at the first store I went to and it was only $9.00.
Then I came home and did the never ending laundry and I wanted to watch a new show that will come on ABC on Sunday's at 9PM - central time. But I never made it to 9 o'clock. I feel smooth asleep in the recliner at 8:45PM. Thank goodness for the DVR.
So I hope y'all had a good weekend, I'm off to watch this new show. And I'll let ya know if it's any good.

Fashion Friday- again.
OK here it is, two weeks in a row.
I have found a few cute things this week. It's been so dang freaking hot here I've started thinking about the dreaded "S" word...swimsuits.
Shudder, OK moving on.
I have so many outfits pinned on Pinterest and I found this on Old Navy. It's so cute.

I love love love Yellowbox Flip Flops. I own so many pairs, Hubs says I could have my own shoe store in size 8 1/2.
I'm not gonna link to the next few things but I found them all on the Avenue.

Is it really March?
I totally blew it yesterday with not blogging something about it being February 29th and Leap Day/Year.
Yea, that's how I roll. Forgetting things.
But what I can't get over is that it's March. Seriously, what in the heck happened to January and February.
This year is just flying by.
That and yes folks, it's spring training time. Woo Hoo! Baseball season is less than a month away.
This year the boys both just happened to get picked for the Cardinals, different divisions but both on the Cardinals. You would think that would make me happy, one parent shirt.
I really want to find one that says Cardinal Baseball in bling. Hmmmm. I have a friend that designs blingy t's.
Gotta run, I need to call my friend.

Ben and Ida
This past weekend my cousin Lisa from New York came to visit us.
And she brought with her an entire tote bag full of old family pictures. We spend a few hours on Friday night and Saturday night looking at each one. What precious memories these pictures were for me. I didn't have any pictures of my paternal grandparents and now I have a ton of them. I'm so happy she let me keep some. Some of these pictures dated all the way back to the 1920's.

There was also plenty of other memorabilia to. Letters to grandmother from my grandfather, a Western Union Telegram, and a wedding program. (that was pretty darn cool for the 1920's if I do say so myself.)

Fashion Friday-maybe
So while shopping the other day I thought about the several blogs that do fashion on Fridays.
They do a great job but for women like me I tend to sometimes fall in the larger size category. So I thought about posting plus size clothing.
Here's my first shot at it, it might be my last but we'll see.
Chambray blouse
This would be cute with some white capris in the summer.

Ruffle cardigan with jewel applique tank
This would be great with some jeans and boots.
Asymmetric peasant top

Floral ribbon print dress

Silver Aiko boot cut jeans
These are great jeans.

Hibachi style Valentines
Last week for Valentine's Day I was sick. Sick as in I didn't want to do anything but sleep.
And that is pretty much what I did. That and ruin what Hubs had planned for the night.
Sorry babe.
But he was great about it and just postponed it all till Thursday.
I came home to find the garage was shut and it would not go up. The first thought was OK great the power's out but there were lights on inside. Then the next thought was the garage door was broken.
So I walked around to the front door where I was met by two boys and a sign on the front door inviting me into a restaurant named after our neighborhood.
When I stepped into the hallway, Hubs met us with his dress clothes on and asked if he could take my purse and if we wanted a table or a booth. I almost said booth but we don't have one of those in our house. Although, I would love one of those cute little breakfast nooks in the kitchen.
The three of us sat down at the dinning room table and our waiter, Hubs, came and took our drink order and gave us menus. When he came back with our drinks he proceeded to set up our griddle. He was going to cook dinner hibachi style.
One of your favorite local restaurants is a hibachi grill. They have the best soup, sushi, and rice.
Hubs out did himself. He even made the volcano like the restaurant does.
See...

Ray
I don't even know where to start this post so I'll just start rambling.
I'm feeling better, finally. I was beginning to think I might have to go back to the doctor but I started to feeling better Saturday.
I've told y'all about a family that I have known most of my life.
31 years.
I used to babysit for Debbie and Cliff. They had three girls, Christi, Tammy, and Robin.
I love this family, they are my extended family. The girls are now married a have children of their own. We have remained close over the years and I am thankful for that.
Debbie's youngest brother, Ray and I are the same age. I always remembered how much the girls loved him when they were younger.
Debbie called me last week to tell me Ray was in the hospital. His liver and kidneys were shutting down and he was in ICU.
Saturday, one week later, she sent me a text message to tell me Ray had lost his battle. My heart hurts so much for this family.
Christi said this and I think it's perfect.
Sometimes the path we think people should have in order to be happy isn't anything close to the path God has actually set for them. I feel Ray was the battleground for a nasty tug of war between Jesus and the Devil. I know Jesus won.
Rest in peace Ray. You will be missed.

I'm beginning to hate shots that make me feel better
So Yes I'm still sick.
I went to the doctor and I have a sinus infection, which has lead to drainage down the back of my throat, (like you wanted to know that) and my throat is also infected, and so are my ears.
I didn't know my ears were infected I just knew I couldn't hear out of them. Everything was sounding muffled.
So two shots, which by the way, were very painful and one prescription later I'm hopefully on the road to recovery.
I've never had two shots that hurt so much. One shot was Rocephin. It's what I call the miracle shot. The only bad thing is it is a thick shot and it hurts going in. It burns and then where I got the shot hurts for two-five days after. The second shot I got was an steriod shot. It burned so bad I don't even want to recall it for y'all.
So two shots in two hips.
I'm done! Literally.

I'm sick
So the past few days I've been feeling under the weather.
Actually that has been and understatement. I feel like crap.
It started Sunday morning after we had spent the entire day Saturday at the ball park. The boys had try outs and it was cold and windy.
So I woke up Sunday with a head full of junk. Now my ears are stopped up and my right eye won't quit watering. My nose is running yet it is stopped up too.
Can someone please explain that last part to me...it's running yet I can't breathe out of it.
Anyway, I've taken Mucinex-D, a gallon of water, Advil, Sudafed and a host of other stuff.
And here is where I become a fortune teller...I see a trip to the doctor in my future, my near future.

A meme
My sweet bloggy friend, Amy, tagged me in a meme.
I have to admit, I'm not a good meme pass on-er type person. I like to answer the questions but I have the hardest time picking people to pass the meme on to. Amy even had some great questions for me and the other people she chose to answer.
I can answer the 11 questions and I can even create 11 random facts about me but I don't know if I can come up with 11 new questions and the pass them on to just 11 people.
Here's my best shot.
The Rules:
My Questions for me to answer:
1. I was born in a big city, moved to even a bigger city when I was 5 and then moved to small town when I was in my twenties.
2. I love my dog, Cookie. I really didn't want a dog when we got her. But I love her now and I will be devastated when she passes away.
3. I want to go storm chasing.
4. I love baseball! Ok maybe that's not so random.
5. I have OCD clean bathroom tenancies. But only at my house. I can't stand to see tooth paste all over the boys bathroom sink and I always wipe down the toilet every two or three days.
6. I'm scared that #5 will scar my children.
7. I like to plant flowers but I can't stand for dirt to be under my fingernails. Which is why I own about 3 pairs of gardening gloves.
8. I've made some great friends through blogging. Who would have ever thought!
9. I'm a terrible commenter. I used to leave comments all the time. I read the people on my blog roll everyday, but I rarely leave comments. And that's just wrong.
10. I have a deep rooted love for gummy coke bottles. I don't keep them in the house because I can't just grab a few. I would eat the entire bag in one sitting.
11. I have been blogging for 4 years. 4 years Hubs. He didn't think it would last 4 days. Just kidding.
OK that's it, my brain is dead from just trying to think of 11 random things. And I can't pick who to tag so I tag everyone.
You are it!

The Rules:
- Post these rules
- You must post 11 random things about yourself
- Answer the questions set for you in their post
- Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer
- Go to their blog and tell them you’ve tagged them
- No stuff in the tagging section about you are tagged if you are reading this. You legitimately have to tag 11 people!
My Questions for me to answer:
- What was your most embarrassing moment? I was a freshman in high school and I would sit in the cafeteria every morning with my boyfriend. The cafeteria was sunken down and one morning when I was walking down the steps I slipped. purse spilled out, books went flying. It was a nightmare!
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be? Anywhere with no humidity!
- Do you regularly dust your blinds? If you call regularly once every 2-3 months then yes.
- What do you like best about yourself? I've always said my smile but only because my parents paid good money for it when I was kid.
- Do you have a celebrity crush? If so, who? Hello Matthew McConaughey. And no I do not acknowledge that he is engaged to Camila Alves.
- What is your favorite Bible verse? Right now I am in a Beth Moore bible study and we are working our way through the Psalms of ascent. And my favorite is Psalm 121:3. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber.
- Do you lie about your weight on your driver's license? Thank goodness my weight is not my drivers license but if it were, yes I would lie about it.
- What is your worst pet peeve? When my husband is home during the summer and he will place an empty coke can on the kitchen counter right next to the sink and right under the sink is the trash can. HELLO...Throw it away!
- Who is your favorite musician? Oh this is so hard. I have an eclectic taste in music. I like a lot of different artists from a lot of different periods.
- Do you return your grocery cart to the designated area? Most of the time yes.
- What would your ideal day entail? Some where laying in a hammock watching my children play. Oh yeah, after I have had a pedicure.

Stepping Up with Beth Moore
So I'm in another bible study at church and before I even knew what the study was about I had decided to skip it.
I figured I had just done one in October and my heart just wasn't really into doing this one.
But thankfully God has a sense of humor because when I told him, umm God I think I'll sit this one out. He laughed at me. Not just any laugh but a big belly laugh.
We are studying Beth Moore's Stepping Up: A Journey Though the Pslams of Ascent.

The group actually started last week but I wanted to go a little deeper into the study before I mentioned it.
It's about going deeper with God. Taking the next step in your relationship with Him. To go where He where He will guide you.
I know that sounds scary to some. Going into the unknown. Even if it is with God, the unknown is a scary thing.
Not me. I'm excited. I'm actually pumped about this study.
See God knew what this study was about even long before I did. An ascension. A journey drawing me nearer to Him.
And this is one of the things I have been praying for. A closer relationship with Him. So yea, God laughed at me when I said no to this study.
Because this is exactly where He wants me to be. Stepping Up to Him.

Well here's what we did this weekend.
I know y'all are excited to hear about what we did over the weekend.
We hopped a private jet and took off for France. NOT! Although that would be nice.
Friday night R2 had his best friend come over and spend the night. I love having him over. He's a great kid and they play so great together. No fighting or arguing, it's great.
Saturday morning we got and I made breakfast and then at 12:30 we headed out to pick up R2's cake and have his birthday party. We had a family party last weekend and this weekend was the one for his friends.
We went to play laser tag. I like the place OK but to be honest I hate that they limit you to only 8 kids, because they charge an arm and a leg for any extras.
On the plus side, the place over booked for the time slot we had and they stuck us in the private room at no extra charge. I was glad because that room is $80.00 more.
After the party we came home and unloaded the car of the left over cake and presents. And R2's friend went home. After that I was wiped out so we did nothing the rest of the day.
Sunday morning was church and after we got home and ate lunch, I promptly got in the recliner and took an hour and a half nap. It was G-L-O-R-I-O-U-S-!
And some where in the weekend a few loads of laundry were done, bed rooms cleaned up, and I lost count how many times I cleaned the kitchen.
That was it. Nothing much. Nice and relaxing.
Oh wait, we did sign up the boys up for baseball. I know, how could overlook that.
Clearly I wasn't thinking.

They are the Houston Astros
I saw this article the other day and just about came out of my skin.
Hubs thought I was going to have a coronary right in the livingroom.
Those of you that have been around here for a while know my love of baseball especially my Houston Astros.
I think I'll just call ol' Jim on the phone and tell him he's lost his freaking mind.
Yeah, that will go over big.
Maybe I'll just send him an email.

Blogger Interface
So the other day when I was signed into Blogger, I hit the button that said, "Try the updated Blogger interface".
Three words...I hated it!
And because I was so freaking frustrated that I had changed it I could figure out how to go back.
All I can say it thank goodness for Hubs. The computer smart man that he is, he fixed it! Can I get an Amen?
Hello Blogger,
I do not like the new style. And that's putting it nicely. And if you don't send this message to the next 5,327 people you know with in 10 minutes of reading this bad things will happen. I'm just sayin'.
Thank you.

For R2's birthday at school this past Friday he and I made rainbow cupcakes.
I had no idea it would be that easy, a little more time consuming but easy.
Here are a few pictures of what we used and how we made them. Oh and they were oh so yummy!

Mr Winter where are you
OK it's middle of January and we have temperatures in the mid 70's.
Really?!
I'm over this heat. I want it cold.
Not a freezing, below zero for weeks on end cold but I would like say 40's-60's and no rain and lots of sunshine.
That's not to much to ask?
This mild winter can only mean one thing...a very hot summer.
UGH!!!

Ready for baseball season
So this past weekend after the Texans lost to the Ravens in a play off game, I was reminded of some thing....
Astros training camp begins on Februayr 19th! WOO HOO!!
I'm so over football season and ready to watch my two favorite baseball players.

My legs are J-E-L-L-O
So the kids and I are still doing the 30 shred. We are on day four and already I feel improvement.
But for some reason tonight the leg part of the exercises kicked my booty. Every time I take a step the feel like jello. I mean the video is only 20 minutes but it's 20 minutes of constant movement and
Oh my aching legs.
OK moving on.
I just keep reminding myself of and inspirational saying I saw on Pinterest...
It doesn't matter how fast or slow you go, just remember you are lapping everyone sitting on the couch.

Harry Potter marathon
Friday R1 came home from school and went straight for the couch to lay down. I knew right off the bat he didn't feel good.
He said he couldn't get warm and I could see he had the chills. I checked his temperature and he didn't have one but he still felt warm so I gave him Tylenol.
He ended up falling asleep and staying there most of the night until he got up around 2:30AM and he was burning up. Another round of Tylenol and some throat spray and back to sleep he went.
Saturday morning I woke up and had that mothers intuition where I knew R1 needed to go to the doctor. So off we went to Urgent Care.
Sure enough, his throat was red and infected. And since R2 had strep three weeks ago and two weeks ago I had a throat infection, the doctor gave him some antibiotics and a steroid pack.
When we got home he went straight back to the couch and got under the covers. Then he asked if we could have a Harry Potter marathon.
I don't think I could answer YES to him fast enough. We love Harry Potter. And since R1 got both part 1 and part 2 of The Deathly Hallows for Christmas our collection was now complete.
We snuggled up and watched all eight movies. It took us two days but we did it. And we enjoyed every minute of it.
Oh and by early Sunday afternoon R1 was back to his old self.

Shredding
So R1 and I have started to work out. We're shredding actually. Well really it's the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels.
I'm sure many of you have heard of this. I even blogged about it sometime ago when I purchased the video. And true to form, I never opened it. It sat unopened for over a year. I know I know I had every intention of opening it and working out. And you know what they say about good intentions.
Anyway Tuesday R1, R2, and myself put that DVD in worked out for 30 minutes. And I am going to admit it. I AM OUT OF SHAPE! Level one kicked my booty. Sad sad sad.
But the best part of the work was Hubs. When Jillian said she had 400 pound people that could do jumping jacks and we needed to do the jumping jacks, Hubs came out of the kitchen took his shirt off and did a few fast jumping jacks. R1 then told him he need to keep jumping because his belly was still giggling.
I almost peed in my pants I laughed so hard. It was to darn funny!
And last night when we worked out again, R2 keep telling us to "keep going" and to "suck it in"! When I thanked him at one point for the motivation. He said you're welcome, that's what personal trainers do.
Oh how I love that kid.

More than just paper
I saw this link on Facebook yesterday. Thank you Becky
Please take time to read it.
I was so touched by the post, that I haven't stopped thinking about it all day.
We actually had a family photo session schedule for awhile. But I had to cancel because R2 accidentally smacked his head on our coffee table and it left a nasty knot and bruise.
But once the bump and bruise are gone, we will be having our photos done.
And yes they are more than just paper.

I just miss...her
Today marks three years that Pam-Maw has been gone.
I still think about her most days.
I miss the sound of her voice. I miss picking up the phone to call her. Early on after her passing, I caught my self more than once dialing her number. I hung up after the first three digits.
I miss seeing and sitting by her in church. It's funny we still sit in the same pew but we have moved down a little and if someone comes to sit her spot I feel a little defensive, like it's still her spot and no one should sit there.
I miss stopping by her house on our way home or on Sunday after church, just to see her.
I guess I just miss her.

Lighting up the new year, thanks Home Depot
So our fluorescent lighting in the kitchen has been giving us some trouble for a while. We have tried to make do but I finally had enough and broke down and went in search of some new lights.
Lowe'ssucks stinks!
Just thought I would throw that out there first thing.
But Home Depot is AWESOME!! (and not they aren't paying me for this endorsement but if they want to throw gift card my way I wouldn't turn it down.)
And now I guess you can tell where I purchased our new lighting. I have been in that store three times in the past two days and each and every time I went in, someone greeted me, offered to help me and even went above and beyond.
The other store, not so much. I walked in and was greeted and that is where the nice service ended. The boys and I stood on the lighting aisle and a worker walked past us not once but twice and never asked if we needed anything or if he could help us. And when I finally had to go and hunt him back down, he grunted. GRUNTED. I asked him if they had any more of a certain style light available and even asked him to check the stock above. I told him EXACTLY what I wanted and he kept telling the wrong information. He even told me one of the lights I was looking at was for residential use and when I pointed out that the box clearly stated commercial, he grunted again. I had to ask him point blank if they had any of the lights I wanted and he finally said I guess not.
Why I even thanked him for his help was beyond me. I grabbed the boys hands and off to Home Depot we went.
When we straight to the lighting aisle and as soon as I got there I saw a lady and asked her for help, she immediately got on the intercom and ask someone to come help me. That some one was a wonderful employee named, Eric. He was so helpful. He answered all of my questions and even offered numerous tips on installation and other factors about residential and commercial. I was impressed. He even offered to load the light into my cart but I told him I need to call my husband first. He said when I was ready to let him know and he would help me.
While on the phone with Hubs another wonderful employee came over and asked if everything was alright and did I need help. I told him I was OK and was just comparing prices to thecrappy other store while on the phone. He then told me he would match the other stores price. Sold. I asked him to load up the light and lets go check out. I also went over to the next aisle and thanked Eric for helping me.
The gentleman walked me up to the register and rang me up himself. And he not only matched the price but took another three dollars off. NICE! And after that he walked me out to my car and loaded the light up for me. I thanked him several times and the boys and I were on our way. The only regret I had was not asking him for his name. The name section on his apron was covered by a pin with at least two dozen service awards pins. And I personally think he deserves another.
Hubs installed the light over the weekend and it works and looks wonderful. But the edges of the the new fixture are just a little smaller than the old one. So back to Home Depot I went to see if they sold some kind of trim kit. Again I was greeted and helped immediately. The store didn't sell a trim kit but I knew Hubs could make one of molding. And when I mentioned this to the salesman, he said he was just going to tell me about that and he even walked me over to the molding section and pointed out several options. And when I went in search of finishing nails the salesman on that aisle was just as helpful as all of the others.
Once Hubs and his dad get the molding cut and nailed up, I'll show you a picture.
But the bottom line is this: I will be shopping at Home Depot exclusively from now. They had the best customer service, the most knowledgeable employees, and a great selection of in stock items.
Thanks Home Depot, YOU ROCK!

On with the new year
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve. We had a great time with friends that came over. And we ate and laughed, and popped fireworks and ate some more.
I have been doing some thinking about the past year recently. While 2011 wasn't the best year, it certainly wasn't the worst. But I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say I was glad to be moving on.
2011 always starts off with me missing Pam-Maw as she will have been gone for three years on January 4th. But then something wonderful happens as we celebrate the birth of R2 who will be turning 7 towards the end of the month.
Oh baseball season is just around the corner too.
R1 graduated from elementary school and moved on to Jr. High where he has been doing great. All that worrying done for nothing. R2 graduated from Kindergarten. We also found out he was dyslexic, but we also got and early start on the help he needed and he is making such wonderful strides in First grade. I am so thankful for the Kindergarten teach he had and the teacher he has now.
I also made it through the summer with 127 degree heat along with no rain and lived to tell about it. We are still in a drought even though we have had some rain, but it hasn't been nearly enough to catch us up.
One of the big highlights of 2011 happened just recently. Hubs graduated with his Masters degree in Educational Technology Leadership. The boys and I couldn't be more proud of him.
Another amazing thing that happened in 2011, is I began in earnest to pray everyday. I wanted to develop a closer prayer life with the Lord. So I asked him everyday to lead me to prayer time with Him.
I can honestly say God does answer prayers. Each day if I got distracted or to busy, the Lord gently nudged me and reminded me to pray. I thanked Him each day for bringing me closer to Him and for leading me to that time.
While I won't go into all of the specifics of what I prayed for, there were things I prayed every day and things I thanked Him for too. Such as the blessings of my husband, my children, family, friends, health, the ability to worship Him openly. I also prayed for the future wives of boys.
But here is the part where I know our God listens and answers prayers. Hubs and I had an issue that arose around October. I prayed everyday about this situation. He says to ask for specific things, so I did. And last week the issue resolved itself. That was almost three months of prayer everyday. I prayed the same specific prayer each time. There were also other trying moments of 2011 that I went to Him and just simply asked His will to be done. And no matter what the out come, I would do whatever it was He wanted me to.
I am so glad the Lord placed on my heart to have a deeper relationship with Him. I have been blessed over and over by this time with Him.
As we begin 2012 I pray each of you has a wonderful year filled with blessings.

Merry Christmas 2011

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." ~ Isaiah 9:6

The Bobbleheads
OK, I know I said I wasn't going to be on here everyday but I had to post this.
My cousin purchased something for the boys for Christmas.
Here it is...
It's a bobble head doll in each of the boys likeness. And while I think R2's is a bit off, R1's is dead on. It looks just like him.
And I think they are kinda cool.
Funny thing on Wednesday, FedEx called and said they had a package to deliver and it had to be signed for. They told Hubs it was coming from China. When I asked Hubs where it was from he didn't know. I told him to call them back and ask. So he did.
When Hubs' called FedEx he asked them where it was coming from and what it was. They told him it was something for R1 and R2 and it came from a bobble head company.
Once Hubs' told me this, it make perfect sense. My cousin had told me she had ordered these dolls for the boys for Christmas.
And I have to say they we all loved them.

I spent 24 hours in New York
Thank y'all so much for the prayers and sweet comments after the passing of my aunt.
I was able to make a very quick trip to New York so I could say good-bye. I went to Houston and spent the night with some friends on Saturday night and flew out Sunday morning at 7:20.
And nothing says good morning like a full body scan. Actually it wasn't bad and it took less than 5 seconds.
My Aunts services was beautiful and she had a ton of friends and old co-workers come.
Now this next part is said in the very best New York accent...."So you're the niece from Texas? Your Aunt loved you and your boys. R1 and R2 were the light of her light. She talked about you all often." Notice I typed you all and y'all.
Believe it or not, that sentence brought me great comfort.
As expected at the graveside services my daddy caved. Nothing can bring a daughter to tears quicker than seeing her daddy cry. Moving on.
After the service we went out to eat at this great diner, The Blue Bay cafe. It was fabulous. There was much laughter as we sat around the table which was good for our hurting hearts. My cousin's husband kept saying, insert New York accent again, "forget about it!" I couldn't help but laugh.
Monday morning was quick as I had a flight to catch back to Houston at 1:20pm.
I will say this. I flew out Continental and each flight took off on time and even landed early. The flight attendants were all very nice and helpful. And no Continental Airlines did not pay me to say this but I wouldn't turn down some kind of airline travel voucher if they wanted to throw one my way.
And I guess being in New York for 24 hours rubbed off me a little, because when we landed in Houston and we were getting of the plane, I was walking behind a Continental rep pushing and elder lady in a wheel chair. When got to the end of the rope section and we stopped. And some woman behind me said in a very ugly tone, "COME ON! KEEP IT MOVING! GET GOING!" I took one step slightly to the right where she could see past me. She said, "Oh I'm sorry." And my reply was..."You should be! I hope you have a Merry Christmas."
Guess you take the girl out of Texas for a while but you can't take Texas out of the girl.
I won't be posting every day, not that I did that anyway. But it's Christmas break and I want to spend some time with my family.
If I don't get back on here before, I hope each of you have a Merry Christmas and remember why we celebrate. Jesus is truly the reason for the season.

Master Hubs
This past Saturday Hubs graduated with his Masters degree in Educational Technology Leadership.
It was a loooong eighteen months with many hours spent in front of the computer. Like 8-10 hours each Sunday.
But he did it and the boys and I couldn't be more proud of him.
I love you Hubs, oops sorry, Master Hubs.

Immortality
At some point in our adult lives we feel as if the people we love will live forever. That they will always be here.
I feel this way about my several of my loved one. My dad, my in-laws, my aunt and so on.
Last night I was reminded we are not immortal. My sweet aunt passed away.
This week has been a roller coaster of emotions. One minute I'm laughing the next I'm missing her so much it hurts. She drove me slap crazy sometimes but I loved her big!
I found out from my cousin that my aunt, cousin and her husband were going to come surprise us for Christmas. Instead I'm in the process of working everything out so I can get to New York for her funeral.
My aunt was here in Texas two years ago. She came for 5 days and looking back was it was the best 5 days. She cherished her time here as did we. But she really enjoyed R2. He was always talking to her and giving her hugs and kisses. She talked about him for weeks after she left.
While she was here she got to see R1 play a few baseball games. My parents even came in from Houston to visit as well.
I snapped this photo of my dad and aunt. It's one of my favorites.
I love you Aunt Phyllis and I will miss you terribly, but I will see you again.

Winter Snow
This song was sung at our Christmas musical this weekend.
I loved it. And the girl who sang it did a beautiful job.
Here is the original song by Chris Tomlin featuring Audrey Assad.

I'm baaaaack...maybe
I know, I know, I'm sorry. I've been MIA for the past few days.
I have been quite busy and this blog has taken a direct hit.
I've had some pretty strict deadlines to meet at work. (Thank goodness they only come around three times a year.) We had our Christmas musical this past weekend at church. My dad came to visit and watch the boys in the musical. My friend Beth and I were in charge of A Taste of Christmas after the musical. And that is no small under taking.
We had to set up the room, tables and chairs. Decorate each table and the set up a table to plates, napkins, and utensils. And set up another table for drinks and coffee. And once the evening was over, dismantle all of it and clean it up.
My feet are killing me.
Moving on....
This coming weekend, Hubs graduates from college with his Masters. I'm so proud of him I could just bust! I'll blog about that later.
Then after graduation we are going to lunch with his family and then everyone is coming over to our house to have Christmas.
But to be honest all I really want to do right now is sit down in the recliner and put my feet up. I hope y'all have a great Monday.
I have been quite busy and this blog has taken a direct hit.

Our tree
I love to pull down all of the boxes full of our Christmas decorations. But my very favorite boxes are the ones with all of the tree decorations. It's like a mini celebration all in its self.
I have my special ornaments, like the one from our first year of marriage and our one year anniversary. The boys first Christmas. The count down ornament. The picture ornaments the boys have made me every year since pre-school. and of course the Rudolph's made from their foot and hand prints.
I used to love to decorate the tree. I always had to find the perfect spot for each ornament. A few years ago, I let the boys decorate the tree. I told them to have it and the only requirement was one ornament per branch.
Normally my OCD would go straight into overdrive I spent the better part of that day in the back of the house waiting till they were done.
And you know what, they did a fabulous job. As a matter of fact it was so good they get to decorate the tree every year now. I only put on four of my special ornaments and the angel on top.
Here's the finished tree....beautiful....

Oh the craziness has begun
I think we all feel the so called Christmas crunch this time of year. Where our calendar becomes so full of things to do and we get so busy we begin to feel the season slipping away from us.
I always try my best to limit my commits and what I say yes to, but this year it seems as if things just keep coming at me. And I know this weekend was just the beginning.
It seems 24 hours each day just wasn't enough. Saturday felt as if I just ran from here to there. For some reason I woke up right at 6am and couldn't go back to sleep. So after an hour of tossing and turning, I got up and got dressed and then went and got donuts for breakfast. R1 had a friend spend the night Friday night and I figured quick and easy would be the best way go. R2 spent the night at a friends house Friday night and he needed to be picked up by 11am.
Then Beth and I had to go and buy all of the supplies for the Taste of Christmas at our church next weekend. We spent the rest of the afternoon going to Sams, Party City, Hobby Lobby, and the Dollar Store. I kinda felt a flash back from last weekend as we spent the entire day shopping on Black Friday.
I didn't walk in the door until 5:30 and I still hadn't even been to HEB. Once again I took the easy way, and we went out to dinner and then as a family went to HEB. *Note to self, go grocery shopping when you are full, nothing sounds good, and you only get what is on your list.*
Sunday was more of the same busy schedule. Church, birthday party, Christmas musical rehearsal, set up tables for Taste of Christmas after church, and then dinner some where in there.
Oh and did I tell you we got some rain. It was close to 3 inches. the sound of the rain Sunday morning was simply wonderful.
This week will be more of the same as I have several things to do during the week. Friday night is dress rehearsal for our Christmas musical. Saturday early afternoon we are having Christmas with my family and then it's the first night of the musical. Sunday is the second performance, and the following Hubs graduates with masters degree. (more on that later) and after graduation we are going out to lunch and the Hubs' side of the family is coming back to our house to have Christmas.
See I told you, the craziness has begun. sigh......

Smokin' hot wife
OK Amy, here you go....
During one of our nightly prayers R2 ended his prayer by thanking God for his smoking hot wife.
OK R2 is 6 and he's definitely not married. All though he does have a crush on my 23 year old student worker at my office. She's blonde, and cute, and sweet. He is just smitten with her.
But in R2 defense, his daddy, Hubs, played a video from You Tube where the person leading the prayer got a little to enthusiastic and then it was redone with Songify, which basically makes it sound like something done by T-Pain using Auto Tune.
OK, you be the judge. Boogity Boogity Boogity.

The big fat poloma
Every night at bedtime I go in and pray with the boys.
I really started it as a way to get them comfortable praying openly. I know one day, and it has already happened to R1, they will be asked to pray in Sunday School, or church camp, and so on. But I have gotten so much more out of it than they will ever know.
Last night while R2 was praying and thanking God for the day and for certain things he thanked God for Hubs receiving his big fat poloma.
Hubs graduates in a few short weeks with his masters degree. I haven't really mentioned it yet because 1. I wanted to dedicate an entire post to him and 2. we were waiting for his final grade to be posted and it was finally posted last Wednesday.
But it was just to darn cute listening to R2 pray for his daddy. I really should break out the video camera and record him.
Oh and also prayed for something else and it was freaking hilarious, but that is a post for another day.

Oh my aching feet
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours ended up being pretty quiet.
Friday Beth, Alex, and I went on our annual Black Friday shopping extravaganza. I set the alarm for 4:35AM. Yes you read that right, 4:35AM. And the truth is I hit the snooze button, twice. Once I got up and got moving I was OK.
Anyway, the three of us left my house 5:40AM and our first stop was Exxon gas station by my house to get a large dose of caffeine in BIG styrofoam cup filled with Cherry Coke. Some of us even purchase a package of cinnamon rolls. Just to clarify, that would not be me.
After that it was on to Target. We got there and the parking lot wasn't even packed. There was also an abundance of shopping carts. Once in the store it was more of the same. We moved among the aisles freely. Not bumping into anyone or anything. It was very different from last year. Last year we couldn't even move. And to check out there was a line and it was snaked up and down the HBA (health and beauty aids) aisles. This year I got what I needed and we walked right up to a check out line.
After talking to the cashier, our suspicions were correct. All of the crazies were out at midnight when the store opened. Next it was on to Best Buy. I needed to get Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 for R1. Best Buy had them on sale for $4.99 and $6.99. Target had them for $14.99 each. And I also needed to look for a cheap MP3 player for R2. My dad was going to buy him and iPod Shuffle but I was afraid he would break it and I didn't want to cough up the $50.00 to replace it. So we'll see how this works out. On a side note, I strongly dislike Best Buy. I have never had a good experience, except the time they gave us the whole entire Rock Band package and we only ordered the disc and when I took it back to tell them, they insisted I had the correct stuff. So basically we spent $60.00 for a package worth $200.00. But that is another story and I think I even blogged about it when it happened 3 years ago.
And to show you how correct I am. I asked the sale guy to show me the cheapest MP3 players they had. He walks me to the other side of the aisle and says this is all we have and this one is $25.00. I say thank you, but I'll keep looking. Hubs had told me their website had one for $14.99 and that is what I really wanted. And guess what, the sales guy was wrong because I walked around the aisle again and found an MP3 for $20.00. So obviously it was NOT the cheapest one they had. I grabbed it up and put it in my cart and headed for the check out. Once again the shopping fairies were shinning on me, no wait to check out. Walked up and heard the magic words... I can help the next customer in line.
I know post had become rather long so I'll get on with it. Here is a list of the other stores we hit while shopping.

By the time we hit Kroger my feet had given out some where between Dress Barn and Bed Bath and Beyond. I even had on tennis shoes. They were throbbing and in much need of a pedicure. Really more like a foot massage.
We had to hit Kroger because Beth needed a few staples, such as sausage biscuits, dog food, coffee, milk, orange juice, coffee cake, and paper towels. And while I was pursuing the aisles with her I spotted something Hubs loves and I have been unable to find for quiet sometime. IBC Black Cherry drinks. Kroger had 4 cases and I showed some restraint and only purchased 2 cases. Mind you there are only 6 in a case, so I walked out with a total of 12 small glass bottles. But he was deliriously happy when I sent him a picture of the case on the store shelf.
By the time we left Kroger and pulled back into my drive way we had been gone 13 hours. Not our record for shopping, but pretty darn close.
It was a great day and I made a huge dent in my shopping. I only have two things left to get. Not to shabby. Oh and guess what else, I spent part of Sunday wrapping everything.

Thanksgiving break part II
The laundry fairies came over to my house yesterday. Well not really. Hubs and the boys washed, dried, folded, and put away all of our laundry. And that is no small feat.
The only down side...On Sunday I had washed the sheets and blanket that go on our bed and then Cookie decided to throw up on them yesterday. So my entire bedding right down to the mattress pad had to be re-washed. But I guess on the bright side of things my entire bedroom now smells like Tide Sport with Febreze.
Also since my peeps are out of school I have decided to take a break from blogging and spend time with them. I'll be back on Monday since I am sure I will have some Black Friday Shopping adventure to tell you about.
I hope each of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Thanksgiving break 2011
I'm excited. No schedule for the next week! No getting up at the butt crack of dawn. No lunches to pack. And one of the best things...no bed time.
Right now the boys and I are snuggling and watching Twilight.
Speaking of, the girls and I went and saw Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 Saturday afternoon. (how's that for transition?)
It was soooooo good. I don't know how I'm going to wait until next year for the second one to come out.
So what's everyone doing for the Thanksgiving Holiday??

Unexpected Blessing
Y'all know we are in an education budget crunch right now.
And with that comes cut backs and so on.
One of the things Hubs' school district decided to cut last year before renewing anyone's contract was their longevity pay. The school district would pay their employees "X" number of dollars for every year they worked there. They would always pay in one lump sum and always the first Monday in December. It was a nice Christmas bonus to add what we had already saved during the year.
The school district didn't really didn't stop the program but decided to suspend it until the financial situation improved.
Monday night the school district had their monthly board meeting and decided that since the money they had budgeted for longevity pay was still sitting in the account, they would go ahead and give the teachers their pay, just like they have in the past.
Hubs received and email late Monday from the Superintendent telling him about this decision.
What an unexpected blessing and Christmas will be a little merrier this year.

Dobble Dobble Dobble

Dobble Dobble Dobble
Who says that?
Mr. Turkey.
Big and flat!
When R2 was 3 three this is how he said that poem. it's supposed to say
Gobble Gobble Gobble, who said that?
Mr. Turkey, big and fat!
But I thought it was cute then and I still think it's cute now.

A Day
Beep Beep Beep it's 5:00AM and the alarm is going off. I hit the snooze button three more times before I get up. My day has begun.
Shower, make-up, get dressed. Wake up Hubs and the boys. It's now 6:30AM
They get dressed and I make their breakfast and then their lunch.
7:00AM I tell them to get finish up and go brush their teeth, they are going to be late.
HURRY!! GET YOUR BACKPACKS AND DON'T FORGET TO PUT ON YOUR SHOES! I love you. Do good on your test. Have a great day and learn something!
It's now 7:20AM and I am running out the door myself. Trying to get to work on time.
8:00AM. Work and school for the next eight hours and some where in there, lunch.
3:15PM school is out. Boys are happy, it's play time! Next it's 5:00PM and I'm on my way home.
Hubs has been home and is cooking dinner. It's 6:00PM and we sit down to eat as a family.
Then comes the rush of homework, clean up dinner dishes, bath time, reading time, and then TV time. It's 8:00PM.
9:00PM Prayer time and bed time.
And sometime between now and 10:00PM it's my time. To relax, wash clothes, watch TV, or just talk with Hubs.
Beep Beep Beep....it's 5:00AM again.

Veteran's Day 11-11-11
Today is Veterans Day.
Let us not forget the reason we celebrate today.
Let us remember all of the soldiers past and present who fought to give us our freedom.
The ones who gave their lives and the families they left behind.
The ones on the front lines now who are missing their spouses and families and in return they are missing them.
Let us remember the past wars so that we may not repeat them.
Let us just remember what this day means for all of us.
And if you see a soldier today, thank them, hug them, shake their hand, because they deserve so much more.

Fourth Grade Nothing
I remember growing up and reading Judy Blume books. I couldn't get enough of them.
Most of them were my favorites. I seriously don't think I can pick just one. But my very first Judy Blume book was Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing.
I LOVED IT!
And some time back while I was looking for something Judy Blume related, I found this blog.
Fourth Grade Nothing
This blog is like taking a trip back to my childhood. She is constantly putting up items from back in the 70's and 80's. Such at Tupperware Toys, Water Ring Toss, and Tang Instant Breakfast Drink.
I have know idea where she gets her stuff from, but I'm loving the trip down memory lane.
Barbie Camper, Play-Doh Barber Shop, Pac-Man, Fashion Plates, Roly Poly Chime Ball from Fisher Price, CHiPs, and numerous other things.
Go check her site out. You will be there for hours scrolling through her archives.

Thankful
A list if you will of things I'm thankful for.
A gracious and loving God. Who forgives me everyday.
A wonderful family who I love with my every being. They may not always like me but they always love me.
A roof over my head with A/C or heat. A bed to sleep in. And food in the fridge.
Wonderful in-laws. I truly love them and I am so blessed by them.
Great friends who would drop everything if I called them and said I needed them.
A fabulous husband who loves to cook! Thanks goodness!!
A husband who will be done with his masters course work in two days and will graduate in December with a masters degree in Educational Technology Leadership!
Thankful I live in a country where at any given moment I can pray. Pray out loud if I want. Worship my Lord and Savior openly and safely. Not having to hid in fear for reading His word.
And one more thing...thankful for bloggy friends who still read and leave me sweet comments, even if I don't leave them comments everyday.

A poem for Fall
Oh Fall weather where art thou?
I'm ready for cooler temperatures now.
We've eaten some gumbo and some chili
With out the cold weather it sure seems silly.
I'm over humid and the heat.
I'm tired of wearing flip flops on my feet.
We'd like some rain, maybe even some ice.
Sweaters and boots would sure be nice.
Fall foliage colors are so pretty
I'm trying hard to make this sound witty.
And now leave you with this to say,
I hope everyone has a great day!

White Trash Dip
I saw this dip recipe on Pinterest a while back and I have been looking for a good excuse to try it.
Not that I really need a good excuse to make dip but it sounded good.
Anyway, we are throwing a co-worker a bridal shower at work and you would not believe the emails I got when they say I had signed up for something called "White Trash Dip". My co-workers were wanting to know exactly what White Trash Dip was.
Here is the recipe:
2 packages cream cheese - softened
1 package bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 15oz can of chili
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp red pepper flakes
4-5 green onions - optional
Cooke bacon and crumble. Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Then spread into a pie plate and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips.
Here is the finished product.
And it's oh so yummy!!

Super Fan
Friday night at the high school football game one of our local stations had the football announcer make an announcement (yeah OK that just sounds dumb to me. What else would an announcer do, make the donuts?) that they were looking for a fan with the most spirit and to meet them down on the track if they thought they had what it took to be a "super fan".
Well my shy child, NOT, R2 asked if he could go down on the track and talk to her. I told him yes and I walked him down to be interviewed.
And low and behold they put my sweet baby on the news!
He did very well. I would put the link up but the TV station is very sporadic when it comes to stuff like this. (Maybe this is why we don't normally watch said TV station.)
Any way here is the monologue...
TV girl (TVG): Hi, What is your name? R2: R2
TVG: How old are you? R2: 6
TVG: Who are you rooting for? R2: The _______. (He did say the name.)
TVG: Why are you cheering for them? R2: Because they're our best team.
TVG: What's your favorite part about football? R2: Gettin' a touch down!
TVG: Do you have a touchdown dance? R2: He shakes his head no. TVG: Do you want to make one up with me? R2: NO!
TVG: Do you cheer up in the stands: R2 Yes! TVG: What do you say when you cheer? R2: GO ----!!!
It was to cute! And the best part was we were home to watch. The TVG said it would be on after news but the world series was going on and they wouldn't show the news till it was over. Lets just say they finally showed the clip at 11pm.
If the station doesn't put it up soon. I might just have to resort to playing the clip and recording it with my phone and then posting it. Just sayin'.
