My Thoughts On The Debate

Last night I turned on the debate. It took me all of 6.8 seconds to realize this was not going to be good.

Here is what I put on Facebook:
RRMAMA
And this is why I can't watch crap like this...screaming at the TV like it's the world series, my team at bat, bottom of the ninth, bases loaded with two outs, winning run at third. Blood pressure is sky high.

I knew I should have turned on the Yankees vs. Tigers game first.  Baseball is much more enjoyable to watch while screaming at the TV.

Congratulations Mike Modano

Well those of you who have been here for a while know that I love baseball but my second favorite sport is hockey. I know, I know, not your normal southern sport. But there is just something about it that I love.

Anyway,

Last night in Dallas, Texas were the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductions.

One of my favorite recently retired players from the Dallas Stars was inducted.

CONGRATULATIONS MIKE MODANO!

Dear Cold

Well it's Sunday night and we are all still hacking and coughing. My ears are now stopped up too. My kitchen counter looks like a pharmacy with all the prescriptions. To be honest, I'm so sick of coughing and the rounds of medicine.

Dear Cold,

I HAVE THINGS TO DO!

Sincerely,

RRMAMA

Yeah We Are Still Down For The Count

So R2 is still sick. It's been a long sickness for him. He has missed school for five days and even though we have his work, I'm worried about what he has been missing in the classroom. I don't want him to get behind.

His fever has finally gone down and his throat is no longer sore, his cough is still horrible. Also we are still on 4 different meds and breathing treatments too. I'm hoping we whip this thing by the weekend.

And to top it off, Hubs is down to. He's been complaining of sinus issues for the past few days. And yesterday he got home from work and went straight to bed, at 4pm.

So dear school, while I like you and love the teachers, please keep your germs to your self! We are dropping like flies in this house.

The Art Of Straw Flatulence

Um yeah, you read that title right.

The other day R1 decides he wanted to show Hubs and I something. So he took a regular drinking straw and stuck one end under his arm. Then he took the other and stuck it in his mouth. I immediately started thinking this isn't gonna be good.

R1 one then proceeds to make for lack of a better term, farting sounds by blowing into the straw. Oh and then of course R2 and Hubs had to join in the action.

Why I immediately thought this hilarious I will never know.  I guess that's what happens when you live in a house full of boys.

When I asked R1 where he learned this he name one of his friends who is one of five boys in his household including his dad. And that didn't surprise me either. That family is great but they sure can come up with some funny stuff.

And just in case you want to see or need a tutorial for the Art of Straw Flatulence here you go...

It Was A Banner Weekend

Well out weekend started out with one of us down for the count.

R2 stayed home from school on Friday. He was complaining his stomach hurt and he had that glassy eyed look as well. By that afternoon he was running a low temp. And of course there is always some kind of virus going around at school so I figured it was just a 24 hour thing.

WRONG! And this is where I will have to give back my mother of the year trophy.

R2 then started coughing. The deep wet hacking kind of cough. And his fever never went a way.  I should have taken him to urgent care on Saturday. But I didn't. Saturday morning we had a children's event planned at church and since I am the children's director I needed to be there. And to make it worse Hubs was in charge of games. We ended up tagging teaming so we each could spend some time at the event.

It all went down hill Saturday night. R2 coughed and snorted all night long. And to make it worse every time he coughed he woke him self up. Saying it hurt and he couldn't go back to sleep. By the time Sunday morning came around I knew I was heading to Urgent Care as they opened at 8AM.

R2 and showed up at Urgent Care at 8:07AM. Diagnosis...Strep and a sinus infection. One prescription for Amoxicillin and 55 minutes later we were headed home. And as of Sunday night he is still down for the count. To top it off, he was in the bathroom taking a bath and the next thing I know he is screaming he needs me. I go check on him and he is puking. But the best was he was in the bathroom but had manage to miss the toilet. G-R-O-S-S! But I cleaned him and the bathroom up and moved on.

Also some where in there when he was feeling better R2 and his brother, R1 and their dad, Hubs, decided to do a little show of what they learned this week at school. The art of straw flatulence.  The art of straw flatulence is where you take a normal drinking straw and put it under your arm, right in the pit, and begin to blow until it makes a sound like someone with a very severe case of flatulence. I can only assume it's because I like in a house full of boys that I did not find this gross but rather hilarious. I asked my boys where they learned this and R1 replied oh from Landon M. Oh that explained it all. He is one of four boys in his house. Along with a crazy dad who puts stuff on Facebook everyday that makes me laugh out loud. So it was no surprise when Landon's name was said.

The other thing that happened over the weekend was Hubs made the most amazing gumbo! I mean it was his best yet. If you haven't ever had gumbo...1.) you are missing out. And 2.) If you've never had Hubs' gumbo then you are REALLY missing out.

So as you can see it was a banner weekend in our house. The boys learned the art of straw flatulence, Hubs made gumbo, and R1 threw up while in the bathroom and missed the toilet.

Obnoxious

Let me start by saying that R1 did not get hurt last night, He played well. So prayers answered. And we also got our butts handed to us.

But the opposing teams fans...OBNOXIOUS!

There was no other way to describe it. We had some friends whose son played for the opposing team so I went over there to say hi and catch up a bit since we hadn't seen each other since baseball. And the whole time I was over there the parents were screaming and yelling and blowing air horns. Totally obnoxious! And the longer the game went on the worse it got.

I kept thinking 1. this is a jr. high football game and 2. hello, you are winning! Have you not looked at the score board?

I'm so glad our fans do not act like that.

Oh and next week we play my niece and nephews team. My niece is a cheerleader and she said she would cheer to her side but then turn on to the field and yell GO R1! My nephew is a year older so we will actually get to sit and enjoy watching him play.

And that's it for the football report. We got home at 9pm and I'm exhausted. So night peeps. Sleep well.

Yeah, I Still Don't Like It

Just so y'all know, I still hate the new blogger format. And I would really like to blame it for the reason I haven't been blogging or commenting as much. But that is only part of the reason.

And I was going to end it there but for some reason all this stuff in my head is just kinda spilling out and needs to be posted somewhere. So here it goes.

I admit it, I fell off the comment wagon. I love going to the blogs and I know I'm supposed to show some bloggy love and leave a comment, but..... I don't. I have no excuse, I won't even try to make one. It takes 3.8 seconds to leave a comment so why I don't has escaped me.

Also life has kinda taken over here. School is back in which means homework. I don't really even know I mention this because Hubs is the one who usually helps the boys. He and boys get home before I do so they do what they can and they are almost always done by the time I walk in the door.

Also R2's school work is requiring more attention. Y'all know he has dyslexia and that word is enough to make me twitch. Just kidding. No I'm not. Not because he has it but because of the extra work it takes to make sure he understands it and gets done with what he needs to do and then making sure it is correct. R2 has to work harder and has more to do than R1 ever did in the second grade. Positive side, we are getting through it.

My English class is going well. I'm doing OK and have my first major test this week. We've had five quizzes and to be honest, I bombed one. Kinda got me discouraged but I bounced right back the next week and made a hundred. So I must have been off the other night. Also it doesn't help that we only have five questions and you also only have five minutes to take it.FIVE MINUTES. Twitch. So that's one minute per question. Twitch. So no pressure. Ha! I'm going to try and do my test this weekend. At least I have an hour and twenty minutes to take it.

R1 has a big game Thursday. We are playing a school known for the their football program. And their 7th grade boys always look more like high school kids or grown men. So believe me when I say I'm covering R1 in prayer. I want him to have fun and win. But I want him safe and free from injury more.

Well that's it, brain is empty.

Peace out!

The Football Bug

Most of you have been around here for a while know that I'm not much of a football person. Baseball yes, Hockey yes, football not so much.

So this year R1 decided to play football. He has several weeks of practice under his belt along with two winning games. Two weeks ago I came home to find R1 and Hubs sitting in front of his computer watching the video of each one of R1's plays. They sat that way for over an hour.

And then to top it off, football has also dominated the TV. The Texans, Florida, A&M, and other game they find on.

I'm so proud of him. It's gonna take some getting used to but I love watching him play!

Meatball sandwichs

The other day I was looking around on Pinterest. To be honest, I hadn't been on it in a while and I was really looking for something that I had pinned some time ago.

But when I went to the site, these meatball sandwiches just popped out at me. So I pinned them thinking this would be a quick easy meal for sometime in the future. Little did I know it would be the near future.

I was telling Hubs about them and he said that sounded like a great meal to try out Sunday night. So guess what we had last night for dinner...

Meatball sandwiches. And they were yummy! Thanks Pinterest.

Dear Blogger

Dear Blogger,

I hate, and yes I know hate is strong word, but I hate your new format!

P.S.
And yes I'm still here. I know I haven't blogged as much the past few weeks, so don't think I didn't notice the change.

Hawks

R1 had his first pep rally and football game last Thursday. A friend was at the pep rally and snapped this picture. I love it!

Oh and we won, 38-8! Go Hawks!

Still The One

Fifteen years ago, today, Hubs and I said "I do".

Hard to believe that fifteen years ago this adventure started. And what an adventure we have been on.

Thank you for being my best friend and the best partner I could have ever wanted.

You're the still one!

Happy Anniversary, I love you!

Literature

American Literature to be exact.

Anne Bradstreet, Mary Rowlandson, Jonathan Edwards, J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur and plenty more to come in the weeks ahead.

I have found each one of them interesting on some level. Their stories have intrigued me.

I still haven't decided if I'm liking them because I'm older and I have more tolerance. Or if I just want to read it and move on so I can hurry up and graduate. Or if I really am interested in this period of time. I think it's a little bit of all three.

All I know is I have 12 more weeks.

I CAN AND I WILL DO THIS!

A little of this and a little of that

Last week was a bit crazy around here.

Let me start off with the bad, I bombed a quiz. I should have known better than to begin it when I wasn't completely prepared and it showed. While I'm mad at myself I knew at some point this might happened. The good thing is it's early in the semester and I have time to bring my grade up.

R1's first football game was supposed to be on Thursday but it rained all day and it was still raining when school let out so they canceled the game. The good news is my dad and both of my in-laws will be there for this Thursday's game. Which is also our homecoming and it's also Hub's and I anniversary.

I have a dear friend who had some testing done early last week and facing possible surgery some time this week. Her faith in God has been so strong but this week has been rough on her. So if you don't mind please say a prayer for her.

And I will leave you with snippet of a conversation that took place between Hubs and R2 during the Texans vs. Jaguars game on Sunday...
Hubs: GO TATE! GO TATE! TOUCHDOWN!!!
R2: Dad, you know he can't hear you.

I love that kid!

We must never forget

We must never forget 9-11 and what that means for our country. I'm sure each of you can remember exactly what you were doing when you heard the news, I know I do.

Here is a story I posted last year.

2977, we must never forget. I will never forget.

I hate it when a title eludes me

It's late and I'm a little delirious at this point. So I'm going to try and recap the weekend.

School is going OK. I'm already ahead on this coming weeks assignments. I'm actually enjoying the readings. I know call me old or crazy. I guess these things just come with age.

And if that wasn't enough for me to add to my plate, I volunteered to be the children's director at our church. Sweet mercy, what was I thinking! Really I was asked by a committee and I prayed about it long and hard before I accepted. I think it will really be a blessing to me, at least that is what I'm praying for.

Saturday night Hubs and I had date night. Let me tell you what date night consisted of, going to Academy and wasting 20-30 minutes, they didn't have what we were looking for. Shocker I know. I was so surprised I got out of there without spending one dime. Guess that kinda makes up for all of the other times I've gone in and dropped $150-$200.

Then we went to eat at Pappadeaux's I'm sorry if you don't have one by you. That's some good eatin' Cajun food. And then date night ended with a trip to HEB. I'm still trying to figure out how we spent more on groceries without the boys than I do when they go with me.

Today we went to church, which we had a great sermon on marriage. At one point I was giggling so much I thought I might have to get up and leave. Then we were invited to go out to lunch. After I came home and tried to read some but I ended up taking a nap. Sleep won over American Lit.

But the best part of the day was watching my niece be baptized. I'm so proud of her. She is a beautiful girl, inside and out.

So I'm off to find Mr. Sandman. Because I'm hoping he brings me a dream.

Go me!

Well I just finished my first weeks assignment, early. It wasn't officially due until Tuesday. I managed to read both sections, watch the video, participate in the discussion board and take my quiz in about 3 three days.

Oh and I scored an 80 on my quiz. Not bad for someone that has been out of the college setting for over 12 years.

So yes, today I'm tooting my horn, because next week who knows, it might be me driving around town with either my blinker left turned on or my seat belt hanging out of the door while I cruise down the road.

I'm off to get a jump on week 2.

The Norton Anthology

So my first official class day is tomorrow but my instructors have already put up the first two weeks assignments.

And being the over achiever that I am, I dove in head first. My book, The Norton Anthology American Literature is 3,027 pages. Yep not kidding.

Proof:

And so far I've got two assignments this week and the first is to read fifteen pages. But let me tell you those were the longest fifteen pages EVER!! I swear I felt like I had more of a history lesson than a lesson in American Literature. Names and dates and time frames. Blech! History was not my strongest subject.

So I made though the first fifteen pages and I have another assignment tomorrow of about fifteen more pages.

The whole point to this is this, I might me MIA. I really want to to do well with class. I've set the expectation bar high for myself. Which means everything else will take a backseat. Quite possibly even clean clothes and food in the pantry will take a direct hit. Just kidding. Not really.

So if I'm gone you'll know I'm knee deep in American Lit. And who knows maybe Hubs might high jack this old blog to let you know I'm reading an adventure about Christopher Columbus and how he sailed the ocean blue in 1492. See told you more of history lesson.

Three day weekends are never long enough

I know we had an extra day off the weekend and don't get me wrong but it's still never enough for me.

We spent all weekend at the lake with my in-laws and some great friends. We have out on the water tubing, skiing, knee boarding, and swimming.

Oh and of course we ate way to much, a ton of BBQ, and lots of sides dishes and plenty of tea to drink.

Now I'm pretty much exhausted and in desperate need of 12 hours of sleep. But here are a few pictures from our weekend-o-fun!
