The best brownies

A few weeks ago when the boys were out of town, Hubs and I were watching TV. One of my favorite channels is The Food Network.

Anyway, Paula Deen had son Bobby on and they were cookin' up some great food.

The dessert really caught Hubs' attention. He said the next time we grill I want to try this recipe.

Well we grilled the other night and guess what, Hubs remember he wanted to try the recipe and had me pick up all the necessary stuff for...

Peanut Butter Cup Brownie S'mores
. They were the best brownies!! I think my favorite part was the melted marshmallow creme.

Before the oven.

If only you could smell them!

Half the pan gone.

Oh the deliciousness!

The great pumpkins of 2010

See I was so tired from telling y'all about my tiring weekend I couldn't even put a post up yesterday.

But I going to redeem my self today.

Last night we did our annual pumpkin carvings. And here at the house of R&R we aspire to achieve greatness in pumpkin carving.

Here is what is left of the pumpkins after we pulled their guts out! Thank goodness we always do this in the kitchen. They were extra messy.

Clearly it takes a steady hand

Patience

And the ability to remain calm while your 5yr old uses a small jagged edge easily bendable blade all on his very own.

And here are the finished products.

Weekend recap but a day late

I would have had this up yesterday but I just couldn't go any more.

I am exhausted. And here's the weekend recap to explain why.

Friday night, R1 went to the football game with some friends and I took R2 to get his Halloween costume. Then took him to pick out pumpkins, 5 of them. Then we went to eat dinner.

Saturday, R2 and I made the birthday party circuit, starting at 10:30AM. I know, seriously, who throws a birthday party at 10:30AM on a Saturday. I guess it didn't matter, the kids had fun. Then another party at 12:30.

I was so tired I had to come home and rest up before going to HEB.

Speaking of HEB. Like how I just led you right into my next exhausting thing I did over the weekend.

A normal grocery trip takes me about an hour and a half. But oh no not Saturday. HEB has decided it was time to remodel. It's actually a great marketing technique on their part, but the store has only been there for about three years. But they moved everything around and relocated it to a different isle or section of the store.

Normally the Gatorade is with the coffee, tea, and other powdered drink mixes, now it's on the coke isle. Which makes total sense. All drinks together. The cereal is normally on the isle with the candy. Not any more, it's with the juice. And the rice has always been with canned goods, you got it, moved to an end isle until they can figure out where it goes. And the detergent is now where the toys used to be.

So two hours and twenty minutes later and about $250.00 poorer I headed out of HEB with my cart over flowing with several impulse buys because I had no idea the store even had some of the stuff that found it's way into my cart. See what I mean, great marketing technique.

Then Sunday, we got up and went to Sunday School, but we couldn't stay for church because R1 had his end of the season tournament.

Fall Ball is over. I know I will be going through baseball withdrawals in about two weeks time.

When I say we were at the ball park all day Sunday, I mean ALL DAY. We got there at noon and didn't leave until 6:30PM. It was exhausting.

But R1's team came in second place for his division. So proud of him. He made an awesome catch during the first the game. I just sat straight up in my seat staring at him saying oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, over and over.

It was quite humorous. Another mother just laughed at me. And I told her she was just as bad when her son plays short stop and the ball goes right to him. She said that was why is was laughing at me because she was glad she wasn't the only one.

So we got home late, ate dinner, did some laundry, and got things ready for Monday.

OK, I'm exhausted again from just typing it out.

Y'all have a great day, I'm off to take a nap.

Hmmm what to blog about

I've been sitting here for the last hour trying to think of something to blog about.

I mean I have kids which is always good blog fodder, but right now we are on the down hill side of a 24 hour virus that woke me and Hubs up in the middle of the night when R2 screamed that he had just thrown up in his bed.

He and I laid around all day doing nothing but watching TV. Well except for the 10 minutes I let him go out in the yard and ride his bike around to get rid of some of the energy he had been storing up.

When he is sick he is all puny and clingy. When R1 is sick he just wants me there while he throwing up, but the rest of the time he wants to be left alone to sleep or watch TV.

Anyway

R2 and I have watched just about every Halloween movie that has come on TV.

Here is a run down of our movie viewing today.

Hocus Pocus
Coraline
It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown - my favorite
Monster House
Halloween Town
Bed Knobs and Broomsticks

And I think Ghostbusters is on later.

Well I guess I did find something to blog about. Y'all have a great weekend.

My son the comedian

While the boys were Branson, my in-laws took them to see several different shows.

The main one being the musical “Noah” which they said was great! R2 sat and watched the entire thing and at the end of each act, he would clap and cheer like everyone else.

Another place they went was to Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Which they both said was AWESOME!

But I think the funniest moment came when they went to the Oakridge Boys Theater and were waiting for the show to start and a comedian came out to pass the time.

The comedian starting asking the audience where they were from and of course my family shouts TEXAS! And the made some small talk about Texas and moved on.

I guess R2 wasn’t done telling him about Texas because he asked the comedian if he wanted a knuckle sandwich. At this point my mother in law pulls R2 into her lap and covers his mouth with her hand.

Of course the comedian eats this up and makes a smart aleck comment about you know you’re bad when...

After my mother in law talks to R2 and tells him it’s not polite to talk like that and he shouldn’t do it again she takes her hand off of his mouth.

But I guess R2 still had a few things to tell the comedian. He then comes back with…

“I’m about to make a delivery!” to which the comedian just left well enough alone and moved on to another person in the audience to poke fun at.

All I can say is I guess you shouldn’t mess with a five year old who thinks he is funnier than you.

The boys are back!

They are back! Safe and sound.

Thank you for all the prayers. This mama's heart is resting easier.

Anyway,

The boys went to Branson Missouri. The grandparents took them and my niece and nephew for the weekend.

The six of them went to see the musical Noah. They all said it was FABULOUS!

They also went to Ripley's Believe It or Not, and Country Tonight at the Oakridge Boys Theater. They all had a great time.

Thanks Big Guy and Duh-Duh for being such wonderful grandparents and making memories that will last a life time!!

Grandparent trip

So I have the best in-laws ever!!! But sometimes I question their sanity.

They are taking my boys and my niece and nephew on a mini trip for the weekend. An 11hr one way road trip. With a 12yr old, two 10 yr olds, and a 5yr old.

I'm asking for prayers as they travel, see what they are supposed to see, and then return home.

I would tell you where they are going but then I would have to kill you. I can tell you they are traveling out of the great state of Texas. And to be honest my OCD is kind of in overdrive.

I have given the boys countless lectures over the past few days about staying close, stranger danger, and not going to the bathroom alone, do not even act like you are going over the next isle when they are in a store. They are to be glued to my in-laws side.

It's not that I don't trust my in-laws, it's that I don't trust all the crazy nut jobs that roam this great country of ours. The psychos and freaks that need some serious help.

So while you are praying for their travels please pray for me. I'm having a little bit of trouble with this one.

Oh I'll tell you more about their trip when they return home, safe and sound!

BP ain't got nothing on me

Well it looks as if BP has some competition. ME.

This past weekend on our way home from a college football game, I came across an oil spill.

And what does any woman do when it's 10 o'clock at night and you are trying to get home and can't really tell that it's oil but looks more like a large puddle of water in the road, run right through it!

When we pulled into the garage, Hubs saw the disaster. I just merely smelt it.

Oh was it NASTY!! All over the passenger side of my car.

It was so late and I was so tired that even my OCD tendencies didn't have time to kick in. I just looked at it for a brief moment and walked into the house.

But Sunday afternoon I took to cleaning the car.

Half clean

Totally caked on!

This is my garage floor, yes it's still there.

My hands after cleaning the tar off my car. NASTY and sticky.

The tar was so caked on I had to find a way to soak it off. So I used plastic wrap until it was dissolved enough to even begin to wipe it off.

Homecoming kind of weekend

We are going to be footballin' all weekend.

We have "small school" homecoming Friday night. And my friend Beth, her kids are both marching in the band.

Then Saturday we have a college homecoming football game we are attending, along with some tailgating. The boys are very excited about this.

And Sunday afternoon, we are wrapping it up with a baseball game.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

I Like

I like...
I like to wake up.
I like to eat.
I like to read.
I like to write.
I like to ride.
I like to hug.
I like to sleep.

R2 read this to me last night. He sat in my lap and read his first book to me.

It was a very sweet moment.

R2 I'm proud of you!!! And love you!!!

Happy Fall Y'all

I love to decorate to the holidays. Easter, Christmas, birthday's, Fall, Halloween really any and all of them.

One of my favorites is Fall/Halloween. I think it's because of the colors. I love the rich reds, oranges, and yellows.

Anyway, over the weekend I decked the house out. As R1 says, it looks like a pumpkin patch exploded inside the house.

Here are a few of my favorite decorations.

Texas Rice Festival 2010

This past weekend we took the boys to the TRF...Texas Rice Festival.

We couldn't have asked for better weather. Cloudless sky, a slight breeze, temps in the high 70's and very low humidity!

It was just a beautiful day for riding some rides.

Oh be still my mama heart!

And of course eating some great food. Nothing tastes better than a pistolette made at the fair, or a pork-k-bob from Rudy's and rice balls with chili inside, fresh squeezed lemonade to wash it all down and to finish it off with a funnel cake.

Good thing we had to hike a mile back to the car. It gave me the chance to walk all that off.

The toothfairy forgot, well kinda

A few weeks ago I was up at church helping out and Hubs called me.

He said R2 was in a state of panic and was screaming and blood was pouring out of his mouth.

Now those of you, the three of you, know I don't do well with my own children's blood. Someone elses, that's OK, but my off spring not so much.

But before I could begin my very own freak out full on hyperventilate some one needs to drive me home right now and give me a sedative or a stiff drink Hubs let me off the hook.

R2 had lost his first tooth while eating a snack and it just fell out. And yes there was some bleeding but nothing life threatening. And yes he did kinda panic and ran to find his dad, who was in another room in the house. (the bathroom) Sorry Hubs, I had to say it because us moms know we never get a moments peace, not even when we are in the bathroom.

Any way,

The tooth fairy came that night and left him a sweet monetary gift under his pillow. The only thing is, R2 is a wild sleeper. Like does a complete 180 in the bed or is turned side ways with no covers and no pillow.

This night he actually slept OK but had managed to push his pillow off the bed along with the money.

Once again he panicked. I had to remind him to look under the bed and there he found his gift.

OK, telling on myself. I feel asleep and FORGOT, yes I forgot to put the money under the pillow but I did manage to drop it on the floor kind of kick it under the bed and he bought it. I just love a naive five old's mind.

Congrats R2! Hope the tooth fairy remembers her obligations to you in a more timely manor.

Fall Ball

Well it's starting to feel a little bit like fall ball weather. It's been so dang hot I was calling it Summer II Ball. But yesterday was actually nice. We had a great visit with family too.

R1 had a great day behind the plate and he even got to pitch. He didn't do to bad for his first time either. He struck out his first batter up!

Football, a new show, and I can't come up with a title for this post

For the two readers I have left, sorry I have fallen off the blog wagon this week. I will try to get back to regular posting schedule. Maybe.

OK those of you that know me, know I do not have that deep love for the game of football. Baseball yes but football not so much.

But some how upon entering my early 40's I have become interested in the game, again, kinda.

My when I was very small my dad used to coach little league football. My mom would drag me and my younger brother to the games where I would cheer my heart out with the big girls on the side lines.

Now years later I end up marrying a football coach. I know pretty ironic. I would go to the games but more for the social aspect than the strategical one. Yes, I know how the game works but to me it was a great time to hang out with friends and catch up.

But as I said all of a sudden I have become interested in the game of football. Not a full blown obsession but more of a let me sit and watch this one game and then move on kinda thing.

Now with all that said, the whole point to all of this really is about my new favorite show. It deals with football, sorta, but it also has other things going on too.

I have heard several people talk about it at work, school, and here on the blog-o-sphere. So after some very deep thought, I figured what the heck and I took the plunge and taped an episode and well now I'm hooked!

While the new season hasn't started, I am trying to play catch up. I have several seasons to watch. I'm hoping with the help of ABC Family, I can stay on track.

You see they air this show Monday thru Friday. That's FIVE episodes a week people. FIVE episodes. How glorious it is. I won't have to wait for the next week to see what is going to happen, just the next day!

So really if I am a little sparse here, it's because I'm trying to cram four seasons into a few weeks time. The season premier is October 27th and I really really really need to be caught up. I don't want to start the season while I am still in the middle of season 3.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Thirteen years ago in front of God, our family and friends I said I do to my best friend.

I said I do to the good times, bad times, leave you speechless and breathless times.

To the hard times, the easy times, the sweet times, and I love you more than anything times.

To the lets have a baby times, the buying a house times, the lets have one more baby times.

To the so busy times I only see you when we go to bed times, the lets go on vacation times.

And through it all one thing remains.

Hubs, I love you more today than the day I married you. You are still my best friend. You are the first one I run to when I have great news or bad news to share. The one who always gives me the best advice. The one who always has my back and my best interests at heart.

You are still THE one!

I love you and happy anniversary.

These are a few of my favorite things

I know, right now you are singing the song from the movie the Sound of Music. And if you weren't you are now.

I'm kinda at a loss as what to blog about right now, but that is a post for another day.

So I will just let you know what I am obsessing about right now.

1. Blue Bell Ice Cream - Summer Berries -

THIS STUFF IS THE BOMB! Sadly it was just a new temporary flavor and I doubt it will be here much longer. And for those of you who live up north...I'm sorry. Only because Blue Bell is really only found in the south.

2. Yankee Candle - car scents - Clean Cotton.

My car has never smelled so goooooood.

3. Pottery Barn Sweater Knit Throw.

It makes me want to curl up and just stay snuggled all comfy and warm.

4. Biolage by Matrix.

I love how it makes my hair smell. Not to mention that it also makes my hair do just as I want it to. And yes I do use the one for color treated hair, but don't tell anyone.

5. These riding boots, love love love them. They are also soooo comfortable.

OK, that's it for now. What are a few of your favorite things?

Here's where I was two years ago today

I posted this a year ago, and I felt compelled to post it again. So much has changed in two years time. But this day will be one I will never forget.

One year ago

One year ago, I was in Gulf Shores, Alabama with all of my family, on a hurrication. We were on vacation due to an evacuation for Hurricane Ike.

One year ago, my house had three trees in it. I had curled up into the fetal position on the floor and cried while my husband and mother-in-law held me.

One year ago, I sucked it up and realized there was nothing I could do 10 hours away and decided to make the most of our hurrication and have fun.

One year ago, I played in the waters on the beach and built sand castles with my boys and collected sea shells to bring home to put in a memory jar.

One year ago, I walked into my house and again sucked it up and cleaned out everything that was damaged, threw it into a pile and just stared at my stuff.

One year ago, our family helped Hubs and I clean up the yard and cut trees down off of the house and haul them to the end of our property. And then I looked at the huge hole in the front yard where a tree had once been.

One year ago, I looked at the blue tarps which covered most of the roof to my house.

One year ago I felt as if my world has been turned completely upside down and it would never again be right.

While the feelings have dulled and bandages I put over that time in my life are still intact, it stills seems as if it just happened yesterday.

All around me still, there are reminders. Like the blue tarp roof on the house down the street. Tattered and torn, but it's still there. The hole in the ground where my neighbors tree was uprooted and hit my house.

Still around me are the friends that had so much damage to their home due to the storm surge, they just got back in three weeks ago. Still around me everyday are the visible signs that Hurricane Ike was here and left his mark.

But one year ago, I felt blessed my family was safe and unharmed.

One year ago, I felt blessed that my house could be repaired and the damage was not as bad as it could have been.

One year ago, my bloggy friends prayed for me and family everyday and I felt those prayers and was so thankful for them.

One year ago today.

This, this, and more of this

So I have to know....how many of you are ready for this and this? And if so what team or teams do you pull for?

I'm still ready for this. And guess what? This weekend we get to play!

Well not we but we as in R1. I just get to sit and cheer him on.

And this makes me one very happy mama!

Get your game on! And y'all have a great weekend.

His own spin on Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

Save as Draft

Enough said, just know that he's got his eye on you!
