Cheese balls galore

This was the container cheese balls I bought at the beginning of the Thanksgiving week.

And this is the container at the end.

Can you say we all enjoyed the cheese balls?

But also in our defense, this is what Hubs made with some of them.

Can you also say YUM!

Thanksgiving Break

Today the kids are getting out of school early. Can you say Thanksgiving Break!

Hubs and I have a date with our oldest child. We are going to see the new Harry Pottery movie. And to be honest, I'm excited about it!

And since everyone is out of school next week, I am also going on a bloggy vacation too.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

See you in a week.

Leonid Meteor Shower

Yesterday I emailed Hubs at school and told him about a meteor shower that we might be able to see once is got dark.
He was all on board with this idea. He even suggested that we wait until the kids were asleep and then pull out some blankets and go lay down in the back yard and watch. I know he's so sweet.

And that is exactly what we did last.

And truthfully the only complaint I had was the moon was to bright and we probably could have seen more if we had waited until around 2AM. But lets also face it, normally I am asleep at 2AM.

I also have to admit it was pretty romantic laying in the backyard under the blankets holding hands and watching the stars.

Seriously, did that just happen?

So I have to ask....

Did anyone else hear Hubs screaming Sunday? I think my entire neighborhood might have hear him.

All I have to say is Texans vs. Jaguars

And if you missed it...here you go.

You are welcome. Have a great day!

Before or After

So while perusing Facebook this weekend, I read where several people were putting up their Christmas trees and decorating their homes.

So my question to you is when do you put up your tree? Before or after Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and have a great day!

Veterans Day

Today is Veterans Day.

Let us not forget the reason we celebrate today.

Let us remember all of the soldiers past and present who fought to give us our freedom.

The ones who gave their lives and the families they left behind.

The ones on the front lines now who are missing their spouses and families and in return they are missing them.

Let us remember the past wars so that we may not repeat them.

Let us just remember what this day means for all of us.

And if you see a soldier today, thank them, hug them, shake their hand, because they deserve so much more

Time Change

Normally Daylight Savings Time comes and goes and I can function just fine. This year not so much.

OH MY WORD. THIS TIME CHANGE IS KICKING MY BOOTY!

Monday night all of us and when I say all of us, I am including the dog, were in bed asleep at 9PM.

Last night 9:30 but only because I had to make sure the jeans were finished drying. But to completely honest I was ready for bed around 8:30. I know, I am OLD!

Is this time change thing causing anyone else trouble? I sure hope I'm not the only OLD person out there.

Disguised

The school projects have begun.

Let me break out into a sweat now.

R2 came home with a note Friday and a cut out sheet instructing us of a "family" project due on Monday.

I use family loosely because all of you know that any time the word project comes homes in a note from school, it's usually the mamas that complete the project.

I will break out all of my scrapbook stuff and make sure the glue gun is working and make sure I have extra sticks on hand.

Anyway, R2's project was to disguise a turkey so that he will not be eaten for Thanksgiving.

I asked R2 how he wanted to disguise his turkey, thinking he would want to go for the camo look and I would have to discourage this because everyone else would be doing camo look.

But instead to my amazement he said he wanted to do his like a zebra. I know, I have the greatest son ever!!! I had zebra print felt left over from last year when R1 had free enterprise day. You can read about and see his project here.

I made the necessary trip to Hobby Lobby to ensure we had all of our supplies. I have a great fear of running out of zebra print felt, feathers, and google eyes.

I came home, traced and cut out the zebra print turkey. Then I asked R2 if he wanted to help me glue the felt down. He did for all of about 2.7 seconds. He thought playing karate with his brother was more exciting.

So I trudged on alone. As I assembled the turkey, I would ask R2's opinion and he would stop karate chopping on his brother long enough to look over and say sure.

And here is Mr. Turkey, do you see him? Do you????

Gobble, gobble, gobble.

Watch out for ponding

I had several great titles for this post earlier in the day but for the life of me I can't remember a one of them. Guess that will teach me to write things down.

Tuesday when we got home from the Renaissance Festival, I promptly went to start washing clothes. And while I was packing the washer to it's fullest capacity I noticed the floor was a tad bit wet. Who am I kidding, it was really wet. So I did what any great wife would do...

I yelled down the hallway, "HUBS WE HAVE A PROBLEM! AND I NEED YOU TO COME NOW TO LOOK!"

So Hubs comes running and see the water. And he grabs some towels and starts to soak up the water and said, "There, done!" And walks back down the hall.

I knew it was far from being OK and that mopping up the water was just a temporary fix. I had gotten the impression we would need to purchase a new water heater.

And so the gnashing of the teeth and many hours of internet research began. And have you priced those suckers lately??? OUTRAGEOUS!! And delivery and installation? EVEN MORE OUTRAGEOUS!!

Anyway, I was a tad bit stressed out to say the least. I slept terrible and the next morning came way to early.

Wednesday morning I was at Home Depot bright and early. I purchased a new water heater and a new toilet set, but that is a post for another day. I scheduled to have it delivered and installed the same day. Home Depot says if you buy it that day before noon and want delivery and installation, they can guaranty same day service.

HOLLA!! I will be able to take a hot shower in the morning.

So yesterday before 11AM I was a bazillion dollars poorer and we had new water heater that functioned properly. AKA didn't leak water all over my floor.

And the installation guys said my water heater area was the cleanest they had ever seen. They must not have been able to see my bedroom or the boys bathroom. I bet they would beg to differ then.

But what I want to know is why do they charge so dang much for that stuff, they know you have to have it!! Kinda like diapers and formula. They know you need it so the charge the highest possible price for it! UGH!

OK seriously I'm tired all over again but at least my feet don't hurt

OK so I was so exhausted from the weekend that I went to bed Monday night around 9:30.

I say around 9:30 because that is the last time I looked at the clock and I don't remember leaving the TV on waiting for the news to come on to watch the weather.

I wanted to watch the weather because R1 had a field and I wanted to make sure I wore the proper weather attire, AKA a rain coat and a pair of rubber boots.

We were going to the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville. Me, Hubs, R1 and about ONE HUNDRED 5th graders.

Oh, sorry back to the rubber boots. The forecast for the day...70% chance of rain and highs in the low 70's.

If you have ever been to the Texas Renaissance Festival, you know it outdoors and it gets MUDDY, hence the need for rubber boots.

The good news was the rain stopped when we got to Conroe and the sun came out just long enough to kind of dry things out a bit.

We arrive around 10AM and promptly hit 1. The bathroom and 2. The food.

Then we saw two shows

Bird of Prey, AKA the owls and falcons.

And the jousting.

Then it was off to do other things, like dip you hand it HOT wax 12 times.

And then meet up with another class.

By the way I just thought the three of you who read this would like to know, since the rain had stopped, I never did wear my cute zebra print rubber boots. I just left on my Nike's. I'm glad to because five hours later my feet would have been killing me.

Instead my body is just screaming at me that it need to rest for the next century from the past three days.

I'm tricked and treated out!

Halloween 2010 was a great success!

We had a busy weekend. We had a carnival Saturday night and a hay ride to take us to trick or treating.

Sunday our church held our fall festival. More games, pony rides, moon walks, and CANDY!

I'm so tried. My legs and feet hurt!

Hope y'all had a boo-tastic weekend.

And here are my goblins now...

The best brownies

A few weeks ago when the boys were out of town, Hubs and I were watching TV. One of my favorite channels is The Food Network.

Anyway, Paula Deen had son Bobby on and they were cookin' up some great food.

The dessert really caught Hubs' attention. He said the next time we grill I want to try this recipe.

Well we grilled the other night and guess what, Hubs remember he wanted to try the recipe and had me pick up all the necessary stuff for...

Peanut Butter Cup Brownie S'mores
. They were the best brownies!! I think my favorite part was the melted marshmallow creme.

Before the oven.

If only you could smell them!

Half the pan gone.

Oh the deliciousness!

The great pumpkins of 2010

See I was so tired from telling y'all about my tiring weekend I couldn't even put a post up yesterday.

But I going to redeem my self today.

Last night we did our annual pumpkin carvings. And here at the house of R&R we aspire to achieve greatness in pumpkin carving.

Here is what is left of the pumpkins after we pulled their guts out! Thank goodness we always do this in the kitchen. They were extra messy.

Clearly it takes a steady hand

Patience

And the ability to remain calm while your 5yr old uses a small jagged edge easily bendable blade all on his very own.

And here are the finished products.

Weekend recap but a day late

I would have had this up yesterday but I just couldn't go any more.

I am exhausted. And here's the weekend recap to explain why.

Friday night, R1 went to the football game with some friends and I took R2 to get his Halloween costume. Then took him to pick out pumpkins, 5 of them. Then we went to eat dinner.

Saturday, R2 and I made the birthday party circuit, starting at 10:30AM. I know, seriously, who throws a birthday party at 10:30AM on a Saturday. I guess it didn't matter, the kids had fun. Then another party at 12:30.

I was so tired I had to come home and rest up before going to HEB.

Speaking of HEB. Like how I just led you right into my next exhausting thing I did over the weekend.

A normal grocery trip takes me about an hour and a half. But oh no not Saturday. HEB has decided it was time to remodel. It's actually a great marketing technique on their part, but the store has only been there for about three years. But they moved everything around and relocated it to a different isle or section of the store.

Normally the Gatorade is with the coffee, tea, and other powdered drink mixes, now it's on the coke isle. Which makes total sense. All drinks together. The cereal is normally on the isle with the candy. Not any more, it's with the juice. And the rice has always been with canned goods, you got it, moved to an end isle until they can figure out where it goes. And the detergent is now where the toys used to be.

So two hours and twenty minutes later and about $250.00 poorer I headed out of HEB with my cart over flowing with several impulse buys because I had no idea the store even had some of the stuff that found it's way into my cart. See what I mean, great marketing technique.

Then Sunday, we got up and went to Sunday School, but we couldn't stay for church because R1 had his end of the season tournament.

Fall Ball is over. I know I will be going through baseball withdrawals in about two weeks time.

When I say we were at the ball park all day Sunday, I mean ALL DAY. We got there at noon and didn't leave until 6:30PM. It was exhausting.

But R1's team came in second place for his division. So proud of him. He made an awesome catch during the first the game. I just sat straight up in my seat staring at him saying oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, over and over.

It was quite humorous. Another mother just laughed at me. And I told her she was just as bad when her son plays short stop and the ball goes right to him. She said that was why is was laughing at me because she was glad she wasn't the only one.

So we got home late, ate dinner, did some laundry, and got things ready for Monday.

OK, I'm exhausted again from just typing it out.

Y'all have a great day, I'm off to take a nap.

Hmmm what to blog about

I've been sitting here for the last hour trying to think of something to blog about.

I mean I have kids which is always good blog fodder, but right now we are on the down hill side of a 24 hour virus that woke me and Hubs up in the middle of the night when R2 screamed that he had just thrown up in his bed.

He and I laid around all day doing nothing but watching TV. Well except for the 10 minutes I let him go out in the yard and ride his bike around to get rid of some of the energy he had been storing up.

When he is sick he is all puny and clingy. When R1 is sick he just wants me there while he throwing up, but the rest of the time he wants to be left alone to sleep or watch TV.

Anyway

R2 and I have watched just about every Halloween movie that has come on TV.

Here is a run down of our movie viewing today.

Hocus Pocus
Coraline
It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown - my favorite
Monster House
Halloween Town
Bed Knobs and Broomsticks

And I think Ghostbusters is on later.

Well I guess I did find something to blog about. Y'all have a great weekend.

My son the comedian

While the boys were Branson, my in-laws took them to see several different shows.

The main one being the musical “Noah” which they said was great! R2 sat and watched the entire thing and at the end of each act, he would clap and cheer like everyone else.

Another place they went was to Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Which they both said was AWESOME!

But I think the funniest moment came when they went to the Oakridge Boys Theater and were waiting for the show to start and a comedian came out to pass the time.

The comedian starting asking the audience where they were from and of course my family shouts TEXAS! And the made some small talk about Texas and moved on.

I guess R2 wasn’t done telling him about Texas because he asked the comedian if he wanted a knuckle sandwich. At this point my mother in law pulls R2 into her lap and covers his mouth with her hand.

Of course the comedian eats this up and makes a smart aleck comment about you know you’re bad when...

After my mother in law talks to R2 and tells him it’s not polite to talk like that and he shouldn’t do it again she takes her hand off of his mouth.

But I guess R2 still had a few things to tell the comedian. He then comes back with…

“I’m about to make a delivery!” to which the comedian just left well enough alone and moved on to another person in the audience to poke fun at.

All I can say is I guess you shouldn’t mess with a five year old who thinks he is funnier than you.

The boys are back!

They are back! Safe and sound.

Thank you for all the prayers. This mama's heart is resting easier.

Anyway,

The boys went to Branson Missouri. The grandparents took them and my niece and nephew for the weekend.

The six of them went to see the musical Noah. They all said it was FABULOUS!

They also went to Ripley's Believe It or Not, and Country Tonight at the Oakridge Boys Theater. They all had a great time.

Thanks Big Guy and Duh-Duh for being such wonderful grandparents and making memories that will last a life time!!

Grandparent trip

So I have the best in-laws ever!!! But sometimes I question their sanity.

They are taking my boys and my niece and nephew on a mini trip for the weekend. An 11hr one way road trip. With a 12yr old, two 10 yr olds, and a 5yr old.

I'm asking for prayers as they travel, see what they are supposed to see, and then return home.

I would tell you where they are going but then I would have to kill you. I can tell you they are traveling out of the great state of Texas. And to be honest my OCD is kind of in overdrive.

I have given the boys countless lectures over the past few days about staying close, stranger danger, and not going to the bathroom alone, do not even act like you are going over the next isle when they are in a store. They are to be glued to my in-laws side.

It's not that I don't trust my in-laws, it's that I don't trust all the crazy nut jobs that roam this great country of ours. The psychos and freaks that need some serious help.

So while you are praying for their travels please pray for me. I'm having a little bit of trouble with this one.

Oh I'll tell you more about their trip when they return home, safe and sound!

BP ain't got nothing on me

Well it looks as if BP has some competition. ME.

This past weekend on our way home from a college football game, I came across an oil spill.

And what does any woman do when it's 10 o'clock at night and you are trying to get home and can't really tell that it's oil but looks more like a large puddle of water in the road, run right through it!

When we pulled into the garage, Hubs saw the disaster. I just merely smelt it.

Oh was it NASTY!! All over the passenger side of my car.

It was so late and I was so tired that even my OCD tendencies didn't have time to kick in. I just looked at it for a brief moment and walked into the house.

But Sunday afternoon I took to cleaning the car.

Half clean

Totally caked on!

This is my garage floor, yes it's still there.

My hands after cleaning the tar off my car. NASTY and sticky.

The tar was so caked on I had to find a way to soak it off. So I used plastic wrap until it was dissolved enough to even begin to wipe it off.

Homecoming kind of weekend

We are going to be footballin' all weekend.

We have "small school" homecoming Friday night. And my friend Beth, her kids are both marching in the band.

Then Saturday we have a college homecoming football game we are attending, along with some tailgating. The boys are very excited about this.

And Sunday afternoon, we are wrapping it up with a baseball game.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!
