It's Been Busy

The title of this post says it all. Actually it is kind of an understatement.

The boys have been involved in sports that have kept us on the go more than I care to be. While I love sitting at their games and cheering them on, we have been away from home these past two months more than I want. I love to go and do things but sometimes you just want to be a homebody and stay in your comfort place and take care of your people.

R1's regular baseball season ended a few weeks ago. He and his team had an amazing season, 8-0. WHOOP! He did a fabulous job behind the plate. I could not be any more proud of him. So now it is on to summer ball.

R2, well he's still going strong. Basketball season has ended. It was a long season but totally worth it. I mentioned he made All Stars and the tournament was last week. His team lost early but he played with more heart and left everything on the court. Long story short, he got sick last week with strep and played through the first game not feeling 100% and finally just said he couldn't play anymore. As a side note, he played that game before I took him to the doctor. I'm not one of those parents like on Friday Night Tykes that yells at their kid to suck it up and get out there, no excuses! Well I did tell him to suck it up until I could find him some Tylenol or Advil. He is still playing baseball and so far they have only lost one game. Not to shabby for a bunch of 9 and 10 year old kids.

So between both boys and three sports with games and practices it has been extra busy around here for the past two months. Oh and let's throw in there a field trip, an awards ceremony, a banquet, and field day just to add to the craziness.

However, I see the light at the end of the tunnel, never mind that's just a glare from the sun.

Y'all have a great and I'll see you in a few weeks when school has ended.

My Catcher's

It is baseball season and I could not be any happier. My boys are playing ball and my Astros are back on TV. All is right with my world again.

For the first time ever both boys are catching. R1 been catching since he was 8 or 9 and R2 is following in his footsteps starting this year. R2 isn't playing catcher all of the time but he is learning.

These boys make me proud every time they step on the field.

 R1 doing his thing.

 And R2 doing his thing.

Livingroom Remodel Take 1

Hubs and I bought our house almost 14 years ago. At the time liked it. I thought it was nice and clean and would a good place for us to raise our kids. (when we purchased the house, R1 was a year old) But I have never been in love with it.

Over time I began to not like things so much and we began saving money to do some home improvements. And the three of you who have been here know that Hurricane Ike took care of some of the remodeling we wanted to do. We ended up with new walls and ceilings, new carpet, new paint inside and out, and a new roof. And after that unexpected remodel I liked the house a bit more but was still never in love with it.

One thing I have never been a fan of was the tile around our fire place. It's kind of a pinky/mauve/rose color and it doesn't match a thing in my house. But I have always been to scared to change it. What I really want to do is knock it out and replace it with brick and that was not going to happen anytime soon so I've just been settling and basically ignoring it.

Over the years I have become a fan of several DIY blogs. They change the color of paint in their homes like I do loads of laundry. Every week it seems they are painting another room, or doors, or even floors. They keep repeating it isn't perfect but nothing in our house is and it always turns out better than the way it was. And after years of having "I'm throwing paint to the wind" envy, (yes I know that is a corny play on words but it's my blog so oh well) I decided what the heck and threw caution to the wind and painted the tile around our fireplace.

Here are the before, during, and after pictures.

I can not believe the transformation. I love it! Yep that's right I said love it! Hubs even liked it. It totally transformed the livingroom and now instead of being just that blah ugly can't even describe the color,  it has become the centerpiece of the livingroom. And you know what, it's not perfect but it is definitely better than it was before.

We liked it so much better that we began to do other things around the livingroom. We hung the TV above the fireplace and added bookcases to wall. You can see we started the shelving while I was still painting the fireplace. Do not pay any attention to the ALL those cords and how the there is more space on the left side of the fireplace than the right side, that was mid project, it's all fixed and pretty now. And now I love my livingroom. There are still a few things we need to do regarding the bookcases and I'll post pictures when we are done.

And you know what I learned from this small one day project, it doesn't have to be perfect it be pretty.

Basketball All Stars

Guess who made basketball All Stars...this kid

Yep R2 made All Stars. So basketball season isn't over for him just yet.

I'm really proud of how hard he work this season and this is his reward.

This is new territory for us as R1 isn't a basketball player and this is only R2's second year to play. I'm excited for all of us.

The boys

So it's baseball season. And those of you that know me, know how much this warms my heart. Baseball is my happy place.

High school baseball is just getting started for R1 and basketball season is just ending for R2.

This past weekend was a flurry of games, one college baseball game on Friday, two basketball games and one and a half baseball games on Saturday. (half game against a school and half scrimmage, guess that makes it one full game?)

Here are two pictures of R1, his first hit on the high school team and the other of his first catch. He did great and I was proud of him. I could not get over how grown he looks out there on the field.

And here are a few pictures of R2 during one of his two games this past Saturday. He is an aggressive player, so much so he fouled out with only 42.53 seconds left in the first game.  but he also knows the rules and uses them to his advantage.

Oh be still my heart, I love these boys!

It's High School Baseball Season

Guess who made the high school baseball team this week?

This guy!

I'm super proud of him and all of the hard work he put in, it paid off.

The Beat Goes On

When the holidays rolled around back in November the boys started planning their Christmas lists. One of the things they both asked for were a pair of headphones, Dr. Dre Beats to be more precise.

I have been on the fence about this request for some time. They have asked for them before and I have staunchly refused. And with good reason. Over the years Hubs and I have purchased many a pair of earbuds for the boys. We've spent anywhere from $5.00 to $20.00 for a pair of earbuds. And I always had high hopes that they would take care of them and not lose or break them. But that is never the case. Each child has misplaced, broken, or left at school each and every pair of earbuds they were given.

Dr. Dre Beats are not just your usual pair of headphones. First off is the price tag for a pair of these headphones. Lets just say they are not cheap! Second they have, according to their website, software technology and introduced the possibilities of premium sound entertainment to a new generation. Ummm, OK.

Anyway, I refused to buy each one of my children a pair of Beats because they couldn't even show me they could take care of a cheap $5.00 pair of earbuds, so there was no way I was going to spend $160.00 on any pair of headphones.

But for Christmas the boys received money from various family members. Plus they each had money left over from Disney. So R1 and R2 decided they wanted to purchase a pair of Beats with their own money.

Hubs and I talked about it and ultimately it was their money and they could purchase what ever they wanted. I will say that we did talk to them and basically laid down the law about purchasing a pair of $160.00 Beats headphones.

So New Years Eve we headed out and my children each purchased their own set of Beats. I will say the quality is 100% better than a pair of $5.00 earbuds. And I'm happy to report each child has taken great care of their Beats.

R2 has been enjoying his Beats.

Gin, The Non Alcoholic Kind

Hubs and I have been together for 19 years and one of the things we did when we first got married and didn't have much money was play cards, Gin to be exact. Even after all these years we still play and some where along the way we taught the boys to play too.

Tonight after dinner I found a deck of cards and asked Hubs to play a game of Gin. We ended up playing seven rounds and I think for the first time ever, I lost each and every game.

R2 came to watch us at some point and I had lost the seventh and final hand, he asked if we could play two rounds of Go Fish. Hubs and I said sure and I proceeded to shuffle and deal the cards.

R2 won the first hand and Hubs won the second.

Clearly the cards were not in my favor.

Dribblin'

R2 had a couple of basketball games on Saturday morning/afternoon so we ended up spending the early part of Saturday at the basketball gym.

This is only R2's second year to play little dribblers and he's really good at it. It's shoots and makes it, most of the time. He hustles up and down and he's pretty aggressive whether he playing offense for defense.

His team won both games but the second game of the day was pretty close. We were up, then the other team was up and then we came back, and they tied it up and then we came back to win. R2 ended up with two or three fouls. See what I mean, aggressive.

I love to watch him. And since football season ended a few months ago, basketball has been my focus.

Another reason I love to watch R2 play is because Hubs is one of his coaches. So it's really a double win for me.

Here are my boys doing their thing during the games on Saturday. They have my heart!

My baby boys

My baby boys are 14 and almost 10. Hardly babies any more. And just when did this happen? How has time gone by so fast? I would like to say I haven’t noticed how time has slipped by, but the truth of the matter is I have. And like so many other moms out there, I understand it has to happen but it doesn't mean I have to like. In fact, I really don’t.

Over the past few weeks I have looked over photo after photo of my boys and I swear it feels just like yesterday I was snapping my camera at their adorable little faces.

I remember when they were babies and I would hold them and listen to their sweet sighs and feel their breath as they nestled into the crook of my neck.

I remember watching them toddle down the hallway to their bedrooms to drag out every single toy they owned only to bring them to the living room and ask me to play with them. And how we would set up the train track and snake it throughout the entire room.

I remember when they both would climb in my bed after their baths wearing fresh pj’s and ask to be snuggled. I remember how their clean hair smelled of baby shampoo and how they’d scoot right up next to me and the ends of their feet only reached my knees. Now their feet reach my feet and beyond.

I remember the first time they put on a baseball uniform and walked up to the plate with a bat that was as big as them and swung so hard trying to make that ball go over the fence only to make it just to the infield dirt. I also remember the first time they slid into home plate to score a run. They didn’t even notice that I was screaming like we had just won the World Series. They were just excited to score a run and get a little dirt on them.

I remember holding their hand as we walked into the kindergarten hallway at school and how when we walked into the classroom they turned and gave me a quick hug and off they went. I also remember managing to hold myself together until I got back to the car and cried huge tears for ten minutes.

I remember a few short years later when we walked down the fifth grade hallway and all I got was a fist bump and a see you later mom. Personally I would have preferred a hug but at that age, it’s not cool to hug your mom in public especially at school. I also remember hearing their friends say how cool their mom was because I gave them a fist bump and didn’t even try to hug them like their moms had tried to do.

I remember the first time to see them walk out on the football field all padded up and thinking I hope they stay safe and play hard. And I remember their faces when they came running off the field to grab a sip of water, the pride showing as the coach smacked them on the shoulder and told them great tackle!

I remember going shopping for dress clothes for the homecoming dance for my oldest. Trying to find a shirt and a tie that would match her dress. I remember watching him give her the rose corsage we picked out, how he opened the door for her at the restaurant, and how he paid for their meal all on his own without having to ask me for help.

So many other precious memories of sweet little moments of time captured in my heart and in my mind that move me to tears and make my heart ache for the past if only for a second. To listen to those sweet little voices call my name and ask me for help only to hear them say they can do it all by themselves. To feel their tiny arms encircle my neck and give me the biggest hug any three year old could as they whisper, I love you mama.

I still get the hugs and the “I love you mamas”, only now they sound more like a grown man’s voice instead of little boys and the hugs are so strong they almost feel as if they are trying to break my bones. (Which by the way I wouldn’t trade for anything.)

To my sweet sweet boys, Mama loves you, forever and ever and ever!

When The Words Came Easily

I started this blog back in April 2008. Wow, that was almost seven years ago. Hubs didn't even think it would last seven seconds let alone seven years.

Back then there were new stories to write about everyday. The words just flowed out of my mind and onto my blog. At some point the everyday goings on seemed to turn mundane for me and the stories never made it from my mind to the pages here and overtime I know I have forgotten some precious memories or a hilarious story that I meant to put out there in bloggy word.

Over the Christmas break I spent some time looking back at this blog and all of the stories and pictures I posted. I smiled, cried, and even laughed out loud at some of the posts. The pictures made me smile the most. I cannot believe how little my babies were, 8 and 3 to be exact.

And I realized I missed putting down my memories. I enjoy having a place to write out my thoughts and remember things that have happened. So to continue with putting my memories out there, here is a picture of my boys getting ready to light'em up on New Year's Eve.

We've Gotta Back, Back, Back To School Again

Whoa, Whoa we've gotta go...back to school again. Sorry I got carried away.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year break. Tomorrow we all go back to school/work. And while I know we must, I admit, I had the best time being with my family.

We stayed up entirely to late each night and then spent the days either lounging around the house and watching way to many movies or hanging out with family and friends.

On Christmas Eve we went candle light service at our church and then over to Beth's house to make home made pizzas and then off to look at Christmas lights. This has been our tradition over the years and it's one of my favorites.

Then it was home to wait for Santa to come. I have no idea how much longer till R2 begins to question Santa so I'm going to soak up every ounce of this magical time. Santa and family were good to both boys. There was the delivery of a Keurig, R2 has been asking for one for the past three years, money, two pairs of Dr. Dre Beats headphones, a remote control car and airplane, a Florida State Fathead, an electric guitar, and a few other toys.

New Year's Day R1 and I kicked off our annual Harry Potter marathon. We broke out all the movies and watch them in order. However we did skip The Sorcerer's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets as they both were on TV the day before we watched them. I love watching these movies with him each year.

We also ate way to much over the holidays. Hubs grilled several times while we are out on break. So you could say we cooked way to much each day but there were other days where all we did was snack on chips and dips and whatever else we could find to eat. I even managed to cook omelets most mornings for breakfast. There were a few days in there when I said the kitchen is still closed and so cereal it was.

So when I say it was good to hang out with my people and just be, it was good to hang out with my people.

Well since I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn tomorrow, which by the way by the time you are reading this it will be tomorrow and I will already be awake, I need to go get my beauty rest. 5:30AM comes early, very early.

After Christmas But Before New Year's Eve

Well I just realized the last time I posted anything was after our Thanksgiving trip to Disney World. I had every intention of posting during the month of December to try and get my blog back on track. But as you can see, that never happened.

After Thanksgiving became known as the "Big Let Down" for me. I kept comparing everything to Disney and nothing even came close. I was ready to pack up and go back but then there was school, then putting up the Christmas decorations, R2 had basketball games and oh lets not mention the laundry, the piles and piles of laundry.

And before I knew it, it was Christmas. 2 weeks to relax and just hangout with my family. And that is exactly what I have done. I've slept till almost 8:30 everyday, which for the record never happens, and have snacked way to much. But I have enjoyed every single second of it.

R1 has been busy with pre-baseball season activities and a few left over football team outings. Santa also brought him an electric guitar for Christmas. He's done very well for a beginner and I see some lessons in his future.

R2 has been enjoying the great outdoors with his new remote control airplane that Paw-Paw gave him. Last year my dad bought him a remote control helicopter that he flew until either he crashed it and it broke or he flew it so much that it just died, I can't remember. But he had so much fun with it my dad bought him a new one. He has been outside everyday flying it and doing new tricks, like dives and spirals. I'm sure the neighbors didn't mind the few times it got stuck in their tree because I'm sure it's been very entertaining to watch him learn how to fly that plane.

Now it's New Year's Eve eve and here I sit trying to figure out if we are going over to friends house for a big end of the year bash or if we are just calling it quits and stay home. I haven't left my house in three days and I'm starting to get a bit stir crazy. Maybe a trip to HEB will cure that for me.

Y'all have a Happy New Year!

Disney 2014

Over the Thanksgiving break we went to Disney World. I do not know who was more excited, me or the boys.

We have been planning this vacation for over a year and we booked this trip in February. All I can say is that's along time to wait for a vacation especially if you have kids that ask every day when are we going to Disney.

Anyway we packed up the luggage and off into the friendly skies we flew. We landed in Florida on Monday and I don't ever remember stopping until we got back on the plane on Friday.

It was one of the best vacations we have ever been on. We all had a great time and we can't to go back.

The opening of Magic Kingdom. I may have even gotten a bit teary eyed, don't judge.

Breakfast with Mickey.
R2 fighting Darth Vader. After this fight he officially became a Jedi.

Selfie with a green army man from Toy Story. This was my favorite ride besides Peter Pan.

It was truly magical! The perfect ending to our vacation.

HOCO, aka Homecoming, 2014

Well this past Saturday was our HOCO dance. The kids got all dressed up and went out to dinner and then attended a dance at the school. R1 was handsome and his date was beautiful. He was perfect gentleman and opened the door for her, pulled out her chair, paid for her dinner and then they had a blast dancing the night away and hanging out with their friends.

HOCO 2014 Pre Event

Back in the day it was just referred to as homecoming. Complete with big homecoming mums with ribbons and decorative strands of beads and bells on each strand of ribbon, lots of bells. Bells that would make a ton of noise as you walked down the hallways of school. Oh and lets not forget the glitter letters that spelled out your name, your dates name, the year, your school, and your mascot.

Now days, it's just called HOCO. No mums and no noise.

Since R1 is now in high school he gets to go the the homecoming dance. Meaning...he has to find a date for homecoming.

Which he did. (I'm still in denial)

So he asked his date, which I found out two days ago he asked to be his girlfriend, (Yep, still in denial) If she wanted a HOCO mum or flowers and where she wanted to go take pictures and eat dinner before the dance.

And the HOCO gods were shining down on me because she didn't want a mum thus saving me a ton of money in therapy because I wouldn't be able to make a decision on which mum she would like best.  And she said she really didn't want flowers. To which I told R1 there will be flowers and a wrist corsage. And he agreed.

So now the plans are being made for pictures, dinner, and attending the dance.

All I can say is R1 is learning early how to make a woman happy. When I asked him what did he want to do for all of the festivities his reply...whatever she wants to do mom is fine with me. Stellar moment right there.

Oh and yes we have gone over the proper etiquette of telling her how pretty she looks, opening the door for her, pulling out her chair and even ordering for her. And in the middle of all of this, he replies that he remembers all of this from second grade when his teacher gave them all a mini lesson on etiquette.

I'm so proud of him.

First Day 2014

Technically our first day of school was last week. I did remember to take the picture, I even posted it on Facebook, but I never blogged about. FAIL!

R1 is a freshman in high school. I can't believe that I have a child in highschool. Where has the time gone? I swear it feels like I just walked him down the kindergarten hallway and into Mrs. D's classroom.

R2 is a 4th grader. Not feeling that time has gone by yet as he is still at the elementary school but when I look back at pictures from kindergarten or first grade he looks like such a baby.

Shake It Off

This made me laugh out loud.

Oh and yes for the record, this 40 something year old likes the new Taylor Swift song.

Birthdays, baseball, and Summer

Well I didn't really intend on taking such a long break. I looked back to when my last blog post was and it kinda shocked me to see June 4th. And while in my head it sounds like I have a lot to blog about when I go to type it out, it doesn't amount to a whole bunch. It's like the days have been on repeat. Which I think is a good thing, it means we have been enjoying our summer.

We've been enjoying our summer so much I totally forgot to post about R1's and Hubs' birthday.

R1 turned 14 in July. We took him out to dinner and then kicked off his birthday week with a few baseball games. As I took R1 to a FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) bible study this week. It dawned on my that in two weeks he will be a freshman in high school. He will play his first high school football game this Friday and it wasn't that long ago we were walking into the elementary school for his first day of kindergarten. SIGH! I love this child with all of my heart. He has made me laugh out loud, so mad I could string him up by his ears, yet so proud by some of his actions my heart could burst with pride. He is an amazing kid! Happy late birthday R1!

Hubs also turned 40. Yep the big 4-0! We took him out to dinner as well. And I let him off the hook the week before and the week of by cooking most of the meals. I can assure you this won't continue. I'm not a bad cook but who am I to mess with a good thing when your husband is a fabulous one. Hubs' parents, sister, brother in law, and our niece joined us for dinner. My mother in law brought to the restaurant a birthday cake that was yummy! I would like to tell you that we had it the next day however there were two boys who left the cake in the back of my car.  I also didn't realize it until the next day at noon when Hubs called to tell me. All I can say is the coolwhip icing melted right off the cake and right into the seats of my new car. But that is another post for another day. Happy late 40th birthday Hubs!

Happy 40th Hubs!

Other than the birthdays, we have been playing summer ball. R1 played in the Summer Freshman baseball league this year. He did great and will hopefully make the team when they have tryouts later in the year, so please keep him in your prayers.

R2 has been reading every day much to his disliking. We have really only slacked off these past two weeks. This summer the boys have attended various campus which kept them busy. R2 even went to watch wrestling with my dad. They saw the WWE Monday Night Raw. Lord help me! I'm still trying to figure out where this love of wrestling came from since neither Hubs nor I watch it. But R2 had a great time with his Paw-Paw and that's all that really matters to me.

We are in the middle of getting ready to go back to school. All four of us start back on August 25th. Supplies have been purchased, clothes have been bought too. The only thing we really need is shoes. But last weekend was Tax Free weekend here in the great state of Texas which roughly translates to stay away from the Mall, any other clothing store, and Target. I tried twice a few years ago to shop on Tax Free Weekend but after fighting the crowds that resembled something close to Christmas time shopping, I decided that saving $8.00 per every $100.00 I spent didn't appeal to me. So this is the main reason we still have shoes to buy. But other than that we are ready. I think.

I would like to say we had multiple outrageous adventures but the truth is we didn't. We just really stayed home and hung around town. The kids seemed to have activities they needed to be at everyday or close to everyday so that kept us or should I say Hubs busy. But we do have a vacation planned for the near future. We've had it planned (and paid for) since February. It's been so hard waiting for the time to come. I don't know who is more excited, me or the kids.

So since I'm sure I probably won't blog for another month, Peace out!

It's all just a blur

Hello. Yes I realize the last time I blogged was in March. But I think things might be finally starting to calm down a bit that I might be able to get back into this, but I doubt it. Since it's been months and way to much has happened, I'll just start randomly listing things that have been happening around here. I can tell you the past 14 days have been CrAzY NuTs.

R2 had an awesome baseball season. He played third base this year and he killed it! Nothing ever got by him and he made some amazing outs playing this position. He had several assists and his hitting average was great too. My favorite play of the season was his unassisted double play. He caught the ball in the air between third and short and then tagged the runner before he had a chance to tag back up. It was FABULOUS!.

He also passed the STARR test, better known as the stupid standardized testing that the state mandates. I hate this freakin' test for way to many reasons to list here, it could be a post all it's own. But R2 passed and anyone that knows his struggle with dyslexia, this is a huge accomplishment for him. I am so proud of him. So it's on to the next grade.

R1 is still playing regular season baseball but will begin playing summer ball for the high school. Yep, I said high school. He graduated from 8th grade this year. EEKK!!! I have a child in high school. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this. I've been having high school anxiety for the past week and we just started summer. Oh Lord please help me. Anyway, he's been playing catcher, third base, pitcher, and outfield. Lets just say he's been all over, but mostly he's played catcher. And he's great at it. My favorite play for him this year was he threw a runner out at second. He came up after catching the ball and fired it right at the second baseman. It was AWESOME!

R1 also will be starting summer workouts for football and in August will begin two a day practices. (Another reason for my anxiety) Southeast Texas means 127 degree weather beginning in June and by August it becomes unbearable. But he's really excited, so I'm trying to be excited for him and not let him see the crazy twitching that has begun in my neck because of this.

I finished the Spring semester with two A's. Why I ever thought taking Philosophy and Statistics in the same semester was a good idea I will never know. I thought I was going to loose my mind at one point. I didn't even think the Blue Bell ice cream would helped. But it's over and done with now and I never ever have to take those dang classes again. I took my last final on Mother's Day and then promptly downloaded three books that I wanted to read and not what I was required to read. I can honestly say I'm on book 5 and I have no intention of stopping till school starts up in August. I have a lot of time to make up for.

I watched a long time friend say good bye to her mother last week. Her mother had cancer for the past eight years of that she was on chemo treatments for six. Her mother was her best friend and it was very difficult process to watch as she and her husband, and their daughters went down this path. I pray God continues to give them peace.

The BFF's daughter graduated from high school last Friday. What a bittersweet time it was. I have watcher this child grow for the past seven years and have loved her like she is my own. I was so proud of her and high school accomplishment of salutatorian! Her speech brought our entire row to tears. So in a few short months she will be off to college. Insert BIG SIGH!

The BFF's son is on mission work this summer in Georgia. He's been put outside of his comfort zone more than once but I know with God he will continue to grow and this will be a great experience for him.

We have a few fun things planned for summer but other than I'm hoping it's kind of a low key summer. We have a big vacation planned in a few months. And all I can say about it is that it has something to with a mouse and an amusement park. WHOOP! I'm so excited I can hardly wait.

So now that I'm finally able to breath and things have slowed down just a bit, I might be able to find my way back to blogging. I really miss it and I enjoyed having a place to put my thoughts down.

Y'all have a great summer and I just might see you soon!
